I know, but I just get annoyed because I feel like the writers want us to like/sympathize more with Rumple than Regina and I'm nhft. Especially since he has Belle and that whole thing which he has done nothing to deserve. Meanwhile Regina has to sacrifice for her son?
The thing I'm most afraid of is that Regina is going to have a much harder like "redemption" arc when at least the reason she ended up being evil is 100% more sympathetic than the reasons Rumple has. Like I am not excusing the shit she's done, she's 100% responsible for that and has a LOT to make up for and nobody owes her any forgiveness, but it feels like Rumple is gonna get ~reformed by true love~ and isn't that so cute and he wasn't really that bad~ and his redemption arc will be a cake walk, while Regina, who got royally fucked over multiple times before she went bad, is actually gonna have to grovel and suffer a lot more than him. I want it at least be equal, especially since (imo) Rumple is the one who really started all of this in motion.
I think that since regina is also fighting for Henry anything she does that may cause conflict with the Charming family will damn her along the way. My thing with Regina is that, while she is still responsible for her actions/choices and should work to be redeemed, she has very little choice in how she turned out. She was a teenager when the Daniel/Snow thing happened and was manipulated by her mother and later Rumple. Meanwhile, if we just look back, Rumple's entire situation would have ended up differently if he'd just moved from his village to somewhere else.
This is basically my view of it. It really bugs me that Rumple's entire situation boils down to "I was a coward and wanted power and even though I have it I'm still a coward because I'm too scared to give it up." If he had moved villages or given up the magic when Bae begged him to over and over, none of this would have happened. I have the hardest time feeling sorry for him anymore. I think it's interesting though because both Rumple and Regina have a kid who wants them to give up magic because it's hurting people - Rumple couldn't, it'll be interesting to see if Regina can imo.
