Anne Hathaway On Her 'Les Miz' Buzz Cut: 'I Looked Like My Gay Brother’

She took the brave step of shaving off her hair to play a diseased waif in the movie adaptation of the musical, Les Misérables.

But Anne Hathaway wasn’t too shocked when she looked in the mirror after losing her shoulder length hair because she saw a familiar face – her gay brother!

Speaking at a New York screening of the movie on Friday, Hathaway said: “When I eventually looked in the mirror I just thought I looked like my gay brother.”

It’s not the first time the actress has spoken about her gay older brother Michael. Two years ago she told British GQ that she and her family left the Catholic Church because of its stance on homosexuality after he came out.

Hathaway said: “The whole family converted to Episcopalianism after my elder brother came out. Why should I support an organization that has a limited view of my beloved brother?”

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Hathaway was so dedicated to playing the role of Fantine in Les Misérables that she shed 25 pounds from her already thin frame.

She lost the final 15 pounds by eating just two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste a day.

Hathaway said: “I had to be obsessive about it – the idea was to look near death.”

I commend her for leaving the church but there were so many ppl on my FB a few weeks ago who go to catholic colleges making statuses that said

Even though I do believe in the Bible and my faith, I just want people to know that I'm voting NO on the marriage amendment (no means u support gay marriage). I don't think ppl should be denied the right to marry the ones they luvvvv. i'm a catholic voting no!

and then they'll have like 200 likes like rme who cares what u think anyway

And it's also like, yeah they're voting no, but dumbasses are still giving their money to the Catholic faith, which then gives money to trying to stop the legalization of gay marriage. Put your money where your mouth is.

seriously it's not that easy to pick and choose, especially when ur paying to go to a catholic college who only lets people in if their pastor signs for them

I went to a Catholic university, and this was not the case. In fact, only a small minority of students were actually Catholic.

Sorry but money given to the Catholic Church goes only to the Catholic Church. It is the greediest organisation in the world. For money to go to people/groups who try to stop the legalization of gay marriage, it'd have to do straight to them. The Church swallows up the money it gets and regurgitates it up the hierarchy.
