the action's good but the stuff they decided to change in it made no sense. like i never would have thought to say that the original was something deep and impactful at all but the remake kind of makes the original come off that way in comparison lmao
hemsworth was hot though!
I have a soft spot in my heart for the original and with all the racist undertones and the changes that are obvious from the commercials, I really don't want to see the remake.
jhutch is the c thomas howell char, but he never goes hardcore or badass or is into vengeance. when the guy with the tracker realizes he has a tracker in him (they stabbed him with it so he was unaware), jhutch gives him a hug and cries, etc. he lives at the end
toni lives too, also her entire character is about having a crush on hemsworth. like all she talks about when she gets lines is how much she likes him, its ridiculous. although to that end the other girl is almost even more useless, shes not around for most of the movie and when she is she just hides behind the younger brother looking worried. the only badass chick is the third girl (one of the pocs, actually), who dies suddenly about halfway through and it's super lame
jdm's char doesnt crash behind enemy lines, he and a small unit (like 2 guys? makes no sense) land on purpose to get the wolverines to help them to steal one of the bad guys communication devices. he doesnt die, he gets on a helicopter at the end to leave back to the free zones. he offers the remaining kids a ride but they say no. theres also no romance plot line for him cause thats all reserved for the brothers
jed dies suddenly and kind of out of nowhere. theyre relaxing after having gotten the comm device and dont know that the one kid got tagged with a tracker. he has a meaningful~ moment with his brother and gets up to go hook up with toni, when hes shot in the head out of nowhere by the ambush. they leave his body in the hall lmao
the bad guy is just a bad guy. he doesnt respect the wolverines at all, and doesnt show mercy on the brothers at any point, etc etc
his brother doesnt die, him and the two lead girls are the survivors and the movie ends with them giving jeds speech about fighting to a new batch of recruits. there is no partisan rock or afterword
basically they took all of the meaningful deaths and undid them, and instead created a bunch of new chars that they killed off in their place. no one was really strong in the war or changed by it (like c thomas in the original), they all just fumbled around about not wanting to kill people. nothing really mattered lmao. they actually gave all the awesome parts (imo) to the pocs, they just also killed them all off. eyeroll!
but the action was good!
