peta rescues a pig for mileys birthday

Miley Cyrus received a pet pig for her birthday on Friday (23.11.12).

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) have sponsored the animal named Nora on behalf of the 20-year-old singer and actress to celebrate her big day and to thank her for her dedication to animal rights.

PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said: ''PETA knew that sponsoring a rescued pig was the perfect birthday present for a young woman who spends so much time encouraging others to help animals. From promoting animal adoption to speaking up for cows who suffer on dairy farms, Miley never stops letting her millions of fans know what they can do to make the world a kinder place.''

Miley is engaged to 'The Hunger Games' star Liam Hemsworth but recently insisted the pair are in no rush to wed as they already feel married. The star - who is currently working on a new album - said: ''I am married in my heart and my mind. I do everything that I would be if I had the paper, but I want to take the time to actually enjoy it.''

''My most important thing right now is ... I want people to hear what I want to say and get my record out, so when there is a time that I can take some time off, I'll feel like I accomplished my stuff. Then I can take a break and just enjoy being married for a little while.''

that's the rescued pig, nora :')

did they rescue it in miley's name... or did they like ship it off to her, cause if they shipped it off to her, i don't like that because gurl is busy and has enough on her hands to deal with and that wouldn't be fair for the pig... but if they just rescued it, then good on you bro.

god help her if she's ever photographed eating pork... this sounds like some kind of guilt trip tactic

Yeah...I wasn't aware that she was vegetarian. Semi-related someone I follow on Tumblr (who is probably an ONTDer but fuck if I know what the LJ username is) has started posting a bunch of vegan righteousness crap the past few days, like seemingly out of the blue, and just...no. Stop.

I've been a vegetarian for almost 4 years but I don't care if other people eat meat. I even helped cook the turkey on thanksgiving lol.

Aww adorable. Such a nice idea to sponsor Nora in her name. <3

Yeah except unless your finances are somehow intertwined there's nothing legally binding and you can pick up and move on without having to go through a bunch of legal red tape so yeah but no you aren't married.

They're too busy spending money on photoshoots/billboards to even feed the animals they "save".

Girlfriend knows how to promote. Every time I see her name now, I see "my new record" shortly follows.

Get it gurl. I'm waiting

Aw, how sweet of them. If only they rescued other animals instead of killing them and promoting the idea that it's better for animals to die than live as pets. How lucky for this pig that Miley had birthday coming up and Peta wanted to make a gesture towards her, now it probably won't be killed by people who think it's "unnatural" for it to exist in capacity of a pet or farm animal!

And for how long will Nora stay rescued? Will she be dumped somewhere if Miley doesn't do anything to acknowledge it? Come on PeTA, this is equivalent of buying your 4 year old a guinea pig to stop it from screaming I WANT THE SQUISHY.

Okay bad equivalent. But it reeks off "Give us some attention in reply or the pig gets it".

A friend/former coworker of mine was telling us (a group having lunch) that he's drawing up his will, and if his spouse dies before he does, then he's going to leave all of his money to PETA. I just...there are better ways to help animals than PETA. Like, idk, an elephant sanctuary.
