Dallas star Larry Hagman dead at 81

DALLAS star Larry Hagman has died at the age of 81.

Hagman, famed for playing the villainous oil baron JR Ewing, passed away at a Dallas Hospital, according to media reports.

His Dallas co-stars Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy, who played his wife Sue Ellen and brother Bobby, were at his bedside, The Sun newspaper reports.

Among those confirming the death were Linda Gray's agent, Jeffrey Lane, The Dallas Morning News said.

Hagman had a liver transplant in 1995 after years of alcoholism. He revealed how he used to down bottles of champagne on the Dallas set.

He married Maj Axelsson in 1954 and the couple had two children.

Larry Hagman was the very best thing about Dallas.

How are they going to handle it without him now? Dallas isn't Dallas without JR.

He wasn't really in the last couple of episodes. It's almost like they were prepping for him to not be around a lot. I think Josh Henderson was doing a really great job as his son. Totally captured the love to hate him thing for me.

Yes, I agree about Henderson, but the father-son relationship was also a major draw.
