Downton Abbey series four confirmed

Lady Mary welcomes you into the post.

It's the worst kept secret in television: after another hugely successful run of Julian Fellowes' period drama Downton Abbey, ITV has commissioned series four.

The third season sent viewers on a rollercoaster ride with Matthew and Mary's highly-anticipated wedding, Lady Sybil's shock death from pre-eclampsia and a family estate nearly ruined by Lord Grantham's poor investments. Throw in to the mix Bates's release from prison, Thomas's scandalous crush on new footman Jimmy and Sir Anthony Strallan jilting Lady Edith at the altar - all in the space of just eight episodes - it was far from plain sailing at the Crawley residence.

But the dramatic events at Downton were well received by British audiences with the series finale drawing in 10.7 million viewers - the highest rating drama of the year according to ITV. The most recent episodes are yet to air in the States, with the third season set to premiere in January 2013 on PBS.

Tbh, I hope series 4 is the last one and that they know going into it that it will be the last so that they can tie things up nicely.

I'll probably still be sleeping off Black Friday Shopping when this gets posted, so y'all better stan for Mary in my absence.

I still say they should recast. Like randomly Mary should be walking around introducing her husband to people in her own family. "Good morning, Papa. You remember my husband - Matthew?" and points at, like, Irdis Elba.

I would kill my savings for that to happen. And will drown in white tears afterwards.
