BioWare asks fans if the next Mass Effect game should be a prequel or sequel + Mirror's Edge 2 news

BioWare made the announcement last week that the next installment in the Mass Effect series is currently in development at BioWare Montreal. The studio is now asking their fans to make the decision on whether or not the next Mass Effect should be a prequel or sequel. BioWare Executive Producer, Casey Hudson, sent out a tweet to his 30,000+ followers on Twitter on how they should progress.

Parsing through your thoughts on the next #ME game. Would you be more interested in a game that takes place before the trilogy, or after?

This isn't the first time Hudson has interacted with the fan base for the development of Mass Effect 4. After the announcement of the sci-fi series going underway, Hudson sent out his first tweet asking fans their opinion on what they'd like to see in the game.

The newest addition will be running on the Frostbite engine set in the Mass Effect universe and will not feature the protagonist Commander Shepard. BioWare Montreal Studio Director, Yanick Roy, commented on how they will be respectful of the franchise.

While [Mass Effect 4] will be very respectful of the heritage built over the course of the first three games, with the original trilogy now concluded and the switch over to a new engine, we are exploring new directions, both on the gameplay and story fronts. You can still expect the pillars the franchise is known for to be fully intact though, including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling.

How should BioWare continue the Mass Effect franchise? Should the next installment be a sequel or prequel?

Faith is about to come out of retirement.

Today, a tweet from the general manager of ngmoco Sweden set the game industry abuzz with talks of a sequel to "Mirror's Edge". Ben Cousins, the aforementioned general manager, tweeted, "It is general knowledge in the Stockholm (Sweden) dev scene that 'Mirror's Edge 2' is in production at DICE."

The article Mr. Cousins links to in his tweet states that the "Battlefield" developer does not "want to become a 'Battlefield' factory" (which seems like a shot at a certain publisher that pushes out multiple military-based first person shooters in various historical periods).

Although DICE became famous for making the "Battlefield" series, "Mirror's Edge" has garnered cult status. The game centers around Faith, a parkour expert cum courier who must deliver secret packages to resistance fighters against an Orwellian state. The focus of the game was not on combat but how quickly and efficiently Faith could traverse the obstacles in her way. In fact, the game rewarded those who explicitly avoided combat by disarming enemies and moving on.

News about "Mirror's Edge 2" being in development surfaced as early as 2009 but talk about the game died down. That is until today when Mr. Cousins tweeted that the game is still very much in production.

Of course, Mr. Cousins' comment is not out of the ordinary as games have tumultuous cycles (witness one "Metal Gear Rising Revengeance") but reading that "Mirror's Edge 2" is still be worked on is good news. "Mirror's Edge" is one of the most original and innovative games this generation and it would be sad to see that it did not get a sequel.

OH GOD I NEED MORE TALI, KASUMI, AND MIRANDA. AND ARIA. FUCK. Also I want the option to actually kill Diana Allers. Bitch is fucking useless and Jessica Chobot seems to have failed acting school soooo......she's better off not returning to the series.
Anyone else play Mirror's Edge? It was so much fun and VERY underrated (ala Kameo Elements of Power underrated)

Well, ME3 came out this year..... :D But AC3 is so far on par with that. I also am enjoying RE6, despite the amount of people booing it.

I can't recall what other memorable stuff has come out this year. :X Clearly it wasn't that memorable.

Sleeping Dogs and ME3.

I seem to be in a solid minority who hated AssCreed3 and ragequit it the other day after the million and tenth glitch cost me an hour's save data.
