Former Degrassi star Jake Epstein to play Spider-Man on Broadway

Are your Spidey senses tingling?

They ought to be, because the Star has learned that Toronto’s Jake Epstein will be taking over the title role in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, still playing to sellout houses on Broadway.

Epstein, 25, is best known for playing Craig Manning on Degrassi:The Next Generation, who played in a band on the show with Jimmy Brooks, played by the Aubrey Graham, now-better-known as the rapper Drake. Epstein was last seen locally as Will in the North American touring company of American Idiot.

“I was totally blown away when it happened,” Epstein told the Star. “I went down and did a standard audition, singing, acting and stuff and the next thing I knew, I was down in the theatre in a harness, learning how to fly. Just a little scary!"

Epstein will begin performances on Dec. 8, initially appearing in the role twice a week and serving as understudy at the other performances. The assumption is that he will stay with the show and eventually take on the role full time.
