Yeah I'm just saying people don't need to make a big deal every time a headdress is used in a music video. it's getting tired. idk maybe i'm just really insensitive lol
Um did you see the video? It was more than just a headdress. They were in teepees, regalia etc
I mean I get what you're saying. It's easy to not understand why natives get so offended.Natives are portrayed in media as kind of just a part of the American myth. Headdresses and regalia have various significance in several tribes. We are represented as 'sexy pocahontas', glorified stoic plains indian or a sports mascot. For a proud people trying to regain their culture and be recognized as a genuine part of the American population, representations like the video kind of demean the slow progress we have taken.
Its kind of like oppressors making fun of the oppressed. I mean, I do think that there can be more appropriate representations of natives, but I feel like no one does any actual research and just perpetuate these caricatures of native people.
I get the general idea. yeah maybe gwen in a sexed-up native american outfit wasn't culturally correct, or whatever. but its not like they made the native americans out to be villains or monsters or something truly scandalous. it was just a fun music video. I don't see the harm, and yeah my grandma is native american but its not like I go around bragging about percentages like most do lol. It's just history in my opinion. Sorry if any of that was offensive.
