CABIN PRESSURE: Cumberbatch Reprises Captain Crieff!

Benedict Cumberbatch Not To Big For Radio 4 Sitcom

Sherlock star reprises his role as clueless captain in Cabin Pressure

Cumberbatch will be returning to Radio 4 to star in the sitcom Cabin Pressure.

The sitcom is in its fourth series and stars Corrie’s Stephanie Cole and The Thick Of It’s Roger Allam.

Based on a tiny airline, the comedy has seen that team flying squaddies to Hamburg, metal sheets to Mozambique, and an oil exec’s cat to Abu Dhabi, all involving pitfalls and huge mistakes that have threatened the existence of the minuscule airline.

Cumberbatch plays hapless Captain Martin Crieff which, according to the Cabin Pressure webpage “has wanted to be an airline pilot since he was six, and before that he wanted to be an aeroplane.”

The critically-acclaimed show will be recorded in London next month.

Any Cabin Pressure fans here? Frankly, as far as Benedict is concerned, I think Cabin Pressure is my favourite series he's worked on. John Finnemore is basically a genius.

I'm super jealous. I hope you understand.

I'd be jealous of me too, don't worry. I've applied for tickets to the recordings too, but if I don't get them it's no big deal (I am kind of scared about the level of Benedict fangirling there'll be, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised), it was a privilege to be able to see the warm ups :)

The Cumberstans were almost unbearable when I went to the PBS screening in NYC. :/

I went to the "Look Back in Anger" reading he did in London in June and he walked by us completely unexpectedly about half an hour before it started, and he stood right in front of me to sign autographs for a few people (I really awkwardly held my umbrella over his head because it was raining and the rest of the crowd weren't moving underneath the theatre canopy).

Once it had finished, I went straight to the pub, because priorities, I have them. It was only once I'd got home and looked online that I saw the crazy huge mental crowd that pretty much swamped him as he tried to leave. I'm glad I wasn't part of it, haha.

He was exceptionally nice when I met him! But he does seem to be really, really overwhelmed by the number of fans who turn up to these events and things to see him. I can't imagine how exhausting it must be, tbh.

I didn't go to the Cheltenham festival thing, but I know friends that did, and apparently he stayed there to sign for nearly three hours (when the original plan was that he wasn't signing anything at all). And was exceptionally lovely to everyone. I know the girl that made that birthday video for him, he recognised her in the queue and gave her a massive hug and thanked her for it.
