ContradictoRhi: 'Unapologetic' Rihanna Apologizes

Rihanna Apologizes to Journalists for 777 Tour Disaster

Guess Rihanna is sort of "apologetic" after all.

Days five and six of the wild tour (in Berlin and London, respectively) dissolved into a "hopeless" situation, I blogged on Monday Nov. 19. Most passengers were deliriously deprived of sleep, food and sunlight; members of the press were upset that Rihanna had been completely unavailable for quotes, photos or much of anything offstage following day one of the tour. One particularly despondent Australian shock-jock even streaked naked through the plane in protest; in London, one journalist handed out fake "Missing: Rihanna" flyers.

On the final day, Rihanna (who reportedly heard about the "Missing" flyers) acknowledged what I call "Plane-a-Geddon" as the 777 prepared to land in NYC for one more concert.

Coming to the back of the plane to address the group, the "Diamonds" singer sheepishly addressed her in-flight press corp -- plopping down in an aisle seat right across from me.

"Guess what, we made it! This has been an experience the I will never ever forget. I barely slept. My sleeping was all done on this plane," explained the superstar, who kicked off the tour, heading toward Mexico City, in high spirits, pouring champagne for everyone. "I want to thank everyone for making this trip the sh--. I want to see the naked Australian!"

Despite the widely publicized snafus, Rihanna said: "I was glad I did this. absolutely. Tonight is the night everything we did this week goes off."

"I know you guys got barely any dirt," she told the disappointed writers. "But I had to be good. I still sound like sh--. It's impossible to spend time with everybody ( anybody), and I'm sorry I didn't. But this was excellent and I would definitely do it again."

Her plans for a similar tour? "I would do this next time with more people, more cities and sit back the the fans more. . . I had to preserve my health. Normally, I'd be back here popping bottles with y'all . . . I had to preserve my voice. I was worried about my body more than partying on the plane, so I had to just sleep whenever I could. I hope you guys had as much fun as I did."

TBH considering she arrived at after parties at 3AM and partied till the planes were late, I am not feeling sympathy for her ~delicate constitution. RIP this drama though, I feel like this will be the end.

Nah not always. I've been at shows where the band have stopped mid-song because they've seen someone fall down and nobody's helped them up so they've stopped the song to yell at the audience to look out for each other. I have no problem with that and would suggest that anybody who did would be the douchebag. (Not suggesting that you'd have a problem with it, just saying I don't think you've thought of all the scenarios)

It's extremely dangerous to focus on a single person in a crowd and focus an entire arena full of people's anger at them. It's not good to ever do even with good intentions, let security do it's job.

lol uhhh idts

sometimes the only way to get them the help they need/to get the crowd to back away off of them is to stop the show. i've seen it happen a few times and those people have always only then gotten the help they need. i think you are reaching.

I don't know. I've seen acts be complete assholes to people in the crowd waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than I've seen the benevolent "Now you must help that person!" thing. I'm sure it's happened, but how about as a general rule performers shut the fuck up and perform and talk between songs.

Security are at the same level as the crowd whereas the band are higher up and can see more. Also security can't quickly get into the middle of the crowd, so the crowd need to look out for each other. And I've never seen/heard the crowd get angry when it's happened because we all know that we will get to hear the song played, as soon as they've said their piece and the people who've fallen down have been picked up.
I suspect we're not going to agree on this because I think there are definitely valid reasons for stopping a performance and you don't.

I was at a NoMeansNO gig once at the Camden Underworld and the mosh pit stopped to look for someone's contact lens.

I'm old and back in my day, pits looked out for each other.

Hehe, you've just reminded me of the time a roughly 12 year old boy helped me find my glasses on the floor of the Astoria after they'd been knocked off. I gave him a very sweaty and slightly innappropriate (because I had taken my t-shirt off and was in my bra) hug.

Lolll You probably made his life!

Ah I can't get over the Astoria being knocked down, it was as pivotal venue to me, as the young lad you boob-hugged!

Me and my now husband went there for our first gig, The Misfits.

I'm so sad when I walk past that building site :(

Hee, I couldn't tell if he was traumatised or ecstatic. Maybe he couldn't tell either until later!

I'm not in London often, so I pretend that the Astoria is still there.
