Nickelback's Chad Kroeger says maths made him famous

Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger has revealed the secret behind his $9.7m (£6.1m) a year success: maths.

“I always thought it was strange when these artists like Kurt Cobain or whoever would get really famous and say, ‘I don’t understand why this is happening to me…" Kroeger told Bloomberg Businessweek. "There is a mathematical formula to why you got famous. It isn’t some magical thing that just started happening. And it’s going to move exponentially throughout your career as you grow, or can decline exponentially if you start to fail as an artist.”

Kroeger was talking to the financial publication about his many business dealings, including licensing, merchandising, product placement, writing for other artists and and co-owning the record company behind Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe'.

Despite his vast earnings, the singer says he will not write songs solely for the purpose of earning money. “When you are writing a song for something else, if you are doing something for money, I always think that’s bad luck,” he says.

Kroeger recently boasted that he and Avril Lavigne will have the "most unique wedding the planet has ever seen". Speaking to Men's Health – the same publication in which he revealed he once paid a roadie to stick his penis in the blades of an electric fan – the frontman promised that he and his fellow pop star fiancée would give their ceremony a "rock 'n' roll edge".

We [grooms] get such an incredibly small chunk in terms of what we can actually participate in," he said. "I get control over nothing. I just show up. But I'm glad, because she has... traversed these territories before. These are uncharted waters for me. So it's nice to have her to guide me through this."

Nickleback always reminds me of that shitty bar band you put up with because the drinks are dirt cheap and you're broke ass poor, yet somehow being drunk doesn't even help with the tortured cat screeching in your ear and you just wind up hating yourself even more for putting up with crap musicians just to get a cheap buzz on.l

Do you live in Austin? Cause this sounds like every Austin bar scene to me.
