Christina Aguilera's fuller figure at AMA awards prompts Twitter fire



Nicki Minaj and Christina Aguilera were blonde bombshells at the AMA Awards on Sunday night.

Minaj's hair was busy and full of volume and she sported a neon strapless gown to accept her first award. Aguilera wore a blonde bob in a purple dress that matched her eyeshadow.

Aguilera also performed a medley of material from her new album and joined Pitbull onstage.

But it wasn't her performance, or her hair, that had tongues wagging -- it was Aguilera's much fuller figure. Here are a few representative tweets from AMA viewers:

My main problem with treating tweets like legitimate journalism material is that it gives these people's shittiness an actual voice (insofar as it suddenly reaches a LOT more people -- like, we never would have read those tweets if we didn't see this "article"). Just let them shout into the void and ignore them, JFC. All this does is teach people that being assholes will get them attention. Stop validating it. /rant

while i can agree to your point to a certain degree, pointing out these tweeters can work in beneficial ways imo; it can let other rational bloggers/tweeters reflect how unacceptable those actions are. Twitter is probably the closest way for them to interact with those celebrities and it is just wrong to misuse that kind of power.

the body shaming that exists in this world is outrageous and disgusting. i am proud to be the fan of a woman who has the confidence to harness her own definition of beauty and sex appeal, and who is unafraid to show the world that there is not just one definition of what sexy is. because when it comes down to it, confidence and working it whether you are a size 2 or a size 22 is what is sexiest of all.

Hm when people say things like "dress for your figure" and the like I feel like they're contributing to the fat shaming. A bigger person can wear what a smaller person does if they want. People just don't like it because they're not used to seeing people being proud of what they consider a negative.

And if you're just talking about the outfit being ugly, that's fine, but she'll wear it if she wants so there's nothing anyone can do about that.

I really feel bad. I have been/am in her shoes, always been tiny(100lbs). Then I had kids, reached almost 30(I am 29),my body changed and I am now 50 lbs heavier than I was. I am also just at the 5'2 mark, so any weight gain seems ginormous. Life happens, age happens, your body changes, I bet most of these tweets are from young people that think they will always have the body they have, wait until it all catches up with them.

I love seeing her so confident, aside from the make up/tan stuff, I think she looks great. Her attitude towards it all just makes me want to be more confident in myself.

I think we as women spend so much chasing some ideal when we need to appreciate what we have/who we are.

And yeah life changes things and everyone is different. I don't know why the lessons we learned in kindergarten didn't stick with these people.
