Why 'Sons of Anarchy' is the most badass show on TV

This Week's Cover: Why 'Sons of Anarchy' is the most badass show on TV

Just because he’s the mastermind behind FX’s most-successful series ever, doesn’t mean that Kurt Sutter is the picture of serenity these days — especially in the editing room. If there’s one thing that makes the executive producer’s job more difficult than ever, it’s finding a way to wedge in all the great performances into one 44-minute episode of SOA.

Most times, he can’t — which is why the network has been “really generous on time” by giving Sutter four 90 minute-episodes to wrap the drama’s fifth season, ending Dec. 4. But he still had to make tough choices. “I just can’t get it all in,” laments Sutter to EW. “It’s interesting because my scripts keep getting tighter in terms of page count and yet I keep getting directors cuts that are longer and longer. A scene that would normally play out in two minutes now takes like 3½ minutes because they’re much more emotionalized. It’s really about letting those scenes breathe so they can have the life they’re supposed to have, because there is so much more at stake.”

In this week’s issue, Entertainment Weekly goes behind the scenes of the series that’s in the home stretch of its fifth suspense-filled season to find out the real inspiration behind the drama (hint: it involves the classics!), who helps Sutter with all those little motorcycle club details, and why cast members like Charlie Hunnam (Jax), Kim Coates (Tig), Tommy Flanagan (Chibs), Mark Boone Jr. (Bobby) and Theo Rossi (Juice) bond so well on and off screen.

And for more on SOA, keep checking back to Inside TV where we’ll feature exclusive interviews with Ryan Hurst (Opie), who talked about his character’s tragic death this season, and Hunnam, who explains why he stopped talking to Ron Perlman (Clay) this season!

I'm not ok with Tig being turned over to Pope. It looks like Tara will continue to make poor choices in the name of the club. I'm looking forward to seeing how this Otto thing plays out.

Don't even get me started on the Tara/Otto storyline. Girl was dense as hell. What's more is that there is no way in logical hell that Jax would let Tara get involved in club business like that. She had a fucking hit put on her last season. He's really gonna let his wife do the clubs dirty work with Otto? After she cheated death how many times over the course of the past five seasons? I just didn't find that storyline believable from the get go.

I wouldn't put anything past Jax this season. He's in desperation mode and she's too stupid to preserve herself and those kids.

omfg the Tara/Otto arc, WHAT EVEN AM I WATCHING RN? But I can't wait to see how it plays out, even though I think this show sucks these days.

I can't wait to see if she escapes jail/keeps her medical license after this stunt. Leave a man on death row in a room with a sharp object. Yea, that will turn out swell.

They should just kill Tara off. They ruined her character's progress and ruined her love story with Jax with the masturbating to Otto crap.

I can't even deal with Tara and her stupidity. Does she forget she has children and could be in jail for doing this dumb shit?
peggybundy 20th-Nov-2012 01:57 am (UTC)
mte, especially after she brags so much about being ~oh so smart~

bitch has been acting dumb as hell. all of them have this season. :(

I dont know about that story line just yet. I think Jax has something up his sleeve. And I dont think Pope is going to get off so easy.

I think what Tara did wasn't really out of character. I dont know how she could have foreseen Otto getting one arm loose with the help of the nurses. And I think Jax was willing to let her do this because it was the only way to get the RICO case out of the way and thus get their lives back on track.
