Hollywood’s Newest Trend: Pet Adoption

Photobucket

Some of the biggest celebs in Hollywood are saving lives … of the four-legged variety. No longer is it popular to walk around with a pet shop-purchased pedigree dog by your side. These days, stars are heading to their local animal shelters to find their furry best friend. Katherine Heigl's Hounds of Hope saves dogs from kill shelters. Sandra Bullock adopted a two-legged dog and a three-legged dog.

In the latest episode of "Celebrity Pet Project," one of pet adoption's biggest supporters, Mariel Hemingway, explains to host Theo Von how her mixed-breed cuties have changed her life. The actress is also featured in the new book, A Letter To My Dog, an ode to man's best friend that includes letters from owners including Oprah Winfrey and Hilary Duff.

I used to foster a lot of pets from the shelter and then I ended up this one cat who was so abused that he hid behind our wall unit for a good 4 months. We were supposed to take him back every weekend for adoption but I had to continuously call every time and be like "uh, sorry." I only even knew he was still alive because I would leave food for him at night and set up a camera every now and then to capture him. The pound told me that it would be best if I didn't foster anymore animals until he was out. And eventually, they just gave up on us.

Nowadays, 7 years later, he still has moments where he gets really scared for no reason and I have to remind him that he's okay. But, he's the love of my life
