Benedict Cumberbatch: Likes his Watson? I Guess? This is a stupid article.

Benedict Cumberbatch wants to keep his Watson male
Unlike Jonny Lee Miller, Benedict Cumberbatch wants his Watson to remain a man

There is an all-male Twelfth Night in the West End, and an all-female Julius Caesar opening later this month, but Benedict Cumberbatch has no intention of following Jonny Lee Miller’s example and working with a female Dr Watson as his pal did in the series Elementary.

“After working with with Martin [Freeman], I could never imagine Watson being a woman,” the Sherlock star assures me at a party to celebrate Spencer Hart’s 10th anniversary at the Brompton Club . “Martin is established as Watson.

“I have seen the pilot and one other episode of Elementary – I think it’s great. It works with Lucy playing Watson and she's a good actress, but I don’t think you could do that here with Sherlock.”

Elementary, the US adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective series, sees Miller take the lead role while Dr Watson, who is conventionally a man, is portrayed by the former Charlie’s Angels actress, Lucy Liu.

“It’s not that I think it doesn’t work in the States, it’s just Martin has been established as Watson and you can’t change that.”

THE SOURCE

Obviously, obviously we couldn't switch out Martin Freeman for an actress and pretend nothing happened and I don't understand what the point of this article is, except as a way to somehow make it seem like Benedict thinks girl-Watson is a bad idea, which just...isn't saying at all. I'm waiting for it to get spun that way though.

lol "polite," guuurl

I just don't get why he continues to say stuff about Elementary etc while simultaneously whining that every single interviewer misquotes him.

Uh idk why polite is in quotation marks but okay lol. I just mean he's not martin freeman status asshole...

And like I just said...he continues to be asked about it, and will do so for the rest of time while Sherlock and Elementary are both on. He just needs to get some media training about how to avoid answering these questions at all, because he either always says stupid fucking shit, puts his foot in his mouth, or gets set up like in this interview for the sake of a nasty looking quote for thirsty ass reporters

Because he's not a polite person, he's consistently dogged all kinds of things and if you're going to discount the Elementary stuff and claim he was misquoted, don't forget about the Downton dragging. He's not a nice person, that's completely fine, just accept it.

Oh lol that, I'm not denying he hasn't talked shit yeah he's a fucking idiot and I dragged him on twitter for that, I'm talking specifically about this article/situation I didn't think we were being general. Idk you can still be a nice person and talk shit his shit talking just happens to be put in papers and all the outsiders/non-fans see so they get this skewed view of him. I'm not gonna argue what is obviously opinion, you don't think he's nice and I do, the end lol.

lol Yeah, polite is the last word I'd use for Benny
