Ian McKellen will be missing The Hobbit premiere

Sir Ian McKellen will give the premiere for The Hobbit: An Unexpected journey a miss as other stars of the movie turn out in Wellington next week.

In a statement from Warner Brothers today, McKellen said he was envious his co-stars could attend.

"It is thrilling that Peter and my other friends from the cast and crew will be re-united for the world premiere," he said.

"I know they will have a wonderful welcome from the fans and I envy them. As ever, my heart is in Wellington, and I send my love."

In his absence, a huge instalment of Gandalf the Grey, Sir Ian's character in the movie, was unveiled at the front of the Embassy Theatre.

Those who will attend the red carpet along the capital's Courtenay Place include Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving and Andy Serkis who are reprising roles from Lord of the Rings in the new JRR Tolkien-inspired movie.

Martin Freeman, who plays the central role of Bilbo Baggins will attend, as well as Richard Armitage who plays Dwarf warrior Thorin Oakenshield.

The Company of Dwarves will also join filmmakers Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

Pre-carpet entertainment on Wednesday 28 starts at 3pm with guests arriving from 4.30pm.

Gandalf the Grey atop the Embassy

The statue of Gandalf was unveiled over the weekend, and hangs on the Embassy Theatre where the premiere will take place.

Three sculptors worked for around 500 hours to fabricate the statue, using materials such as 2400 bamboo skewers, 600 grass skirts and 153 litres of paint.

It stands at 9.4 metres tall, which is approximately 4.5 times taller than Sir Ian.

Scarier than the HP fandom tho'? They made the people snakes and beetles. I dunno if LotR would be worse.

So true. I'm sure there's still the weirdest FF out there about HP and about LOTR. There are probably crossovers.

Gandalf and Dumbledore. Dandalf and Severus. Elijah and Neville. Frodo and Ginny. Bellatrix and Sarumon.
cuteej4 19th-Nov-2012 07:28 am (UTC)
FRODO WOULD NEVER. Frodo and Luna
fruitchews 19th-Nov-2012 07:35 am (UTC)
Luna and everyone works tho'. Like Luna and Arwen. I bet even Sauron would be way happier with Luna and rule the land all peacefully instead of being a major dick.
cuteej4 19th-Nov-2012 07:37 am (UTC)
Lmao and they lived happily ever after
fruitchews 19th-Nov-2012 07:42 am (UTC)
Exactly. Elves leaving to where? Who cares! Luna is ruling the land!

That makes the story five times better since the elf story makes me sad.

lmao, can you imagine.

frodo: I tried to save the Shire, and it has been saved, but not for me.
ginny: LUCKY YOU.
cuteej4 19th-Nov-2012 07:43 am (UTC)
Frodo: I would have given my life to save the shire. To destroy the ring
Ginny: I WAS IN THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS

20727 19th-Nov-2012 07:37 am (UTC)

i've read strider/sirius lol
fruitchews 19th-Nov-2012 07:45 am (UTC)
Oh damn! I'm glad I never read crossovers. Just the weird shit within the HP crap like snakes, mpreg, flash back Harry-young sirius/remus/dumbledore loving, surprise!relation crap for hermoine and ginny, etc.

lol did you read draco is a veela and needs to have sex with ___ his destined mate or he'll die fic

augh, hp fandom
fruitchews 19th-Nov-2012 07:50 am (UTC)
That sounds familiar. I read a lot of D/anyone fics back in the day. Mostly D/H or H/L. Though sometimes it was some good Hermoine fic where she wound up with Ginny or Luna. W/e w/e

I read something like that, but it was Harry that was part Veela and the longer he went not having sex, the more ravenously attracted to him people were.
