Kim Kardashian Apologizes for Tweets About Israeli-Palestinian Conflict/Attends Marine Corps Ball

Photobucket

Kim Kardashian definitely meant well—but sometimes a celebrity's good intentions get lost in translation.

Enough people objected to two of Kim's tweets from today in which she said she was "praying for everyone in Israel" and "praying for everyone in Palestine and across the world!" that she has since deleted the posts and apologized for offending anybody.

"I want to own up to and explain that earlier today I sent out two tweets about saying prayers for the people in Palestine and Israel and after hearing from my followers, I decided to take down the tweets because I realized that some people were offended and hurt by what I said, and for that I apologize," she wrote on her blog.

"I should have pointed out my intentions behind these tweets when I posted them. The fact is that regardless of religion and political beliefs, there are countless innocent people involved who didnt choose this, and I pray for all of them and also for a resolution. I also pray for all the other people around the world who are caught in similar crossfires."

Her tweets were in response to news reports that tensions have escalated along the Gaza Strip this week, with Palestinian militants firing rockets at Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and the Israeli military gearing up for a possible ground invasion, which would be its first in Gaza in four years.

Three Israelis were killed in a rocket attack yesterday, while Palestinian fatalities are now at 28, including several children, a Hamas leader whose home was hit by an Israeli rocket and a man executed by Hamas for collaborating with the Israelis, according to the New York Times.

Kardashian attended the Marine Corps Ball last night in Greenville, N.C., with Sgt. Martin Gardner.

I really wish service members and teenagers every where would stop asking celebrities to balls/prom/homecoming. It was funny/cute the first time but now it's old. No one actually really likes going to those. One was enough for me.
dizzylizzybsb 17th-Nov-2012 09:02 pm (UTC)
Same here my husband just went to the Marine Corp Ball yesterday. I stayed home and watched the Little Mermaid with my friends. These balls are boring and expensive and unless you really like to dress up no one cares.
d00ditsemily 17th-Nov-2012 09:06 pm (UTC)
I can only imagine it's 100x worse when there is a celebrity there which means increased security, probably more people being made to go to make the unit look better, and it takes away the meaning of the ball. In HS I went to the USMC ball with my boyfriend at the time, but my husband is in the Army and thankfully his balls aren't mandatory and he never goes.
ohkimosabe 17th-Nov-2012 08:52 pm (UTC)
That's awesome she went to the Ball. I don't see much wrong with her tweets and like I said in the original post her attempting to tweet about it probably just informed millions of people about what's even going on between Israel and Palestine and they'll hopefully try to educate themselves more about it.
chrislola 17th-Nov-2012 08:55 pm (UTC)
she should educate herself on the topic before she runs to twitter to say something about it.

ohkimosabe 17th-Nov-2012 08:58 pm (UTC)
she's not exactly uneducated for tweeting pray for israel. she just mistakenly didn't include palestine and then corrected her mistake.

kenzainfluenza 17th-Nov-2012 09:55 pm (UTC)
she tweeted about palestine only after twitter bitched at her for being so biased.
d00ditsemily 17th-Nov-2012 08:56 pm (UTC)
Also, someone get this guy a lint brush
dizzylizzybsb 17th-Nov-2012 09:01 pm (UTC)
Apparently she was in my area on Thursday or something. I didn't even get excited or anything, I was just like "really? okay." I could care less if she was standing in front of me.
blessedbell 17th-Nov-2012 09:02 pm (UTC)
I heard she left the ball after ten minutes. Is that true?
beachshore 17th-Nov-2012 09:41 pm (UTC)
Lmao I wouldn't be surprised? From pics looks like she turned this into a photo pop whereas JT and mila kunis enjoyed the balls they attended last year.
nicolesnitchie 18th-Nov-2012 01:17 am (UTC)
lmao
levant_85 17th-Nov-2012 09:02 pm (UTC)
I really hope that Harry Fear doesn't die in Gaza.

And I haven't been so fired up about a situation as I am about Gaza since Zuccotti.

well that bitch and her whole family also hate turkish people soooo
emologues 17th-Nov-2012 09:06 pm (UTC)
she hates turks?
manu19 17th-Nov-2012 09:07 pm (UTC)
there's an whole episode of the kardashians where they bitch 25 minutes about turks and how awful they are (Khloe didnt wanna move to Turkey with Lamar)

Edited at 2012-11-17 09:08 pm (UTC)
hera_bearrra 17th-Nov-2012 09:55 pm (UTC)
Um, probably because the Turkish government still refuses to acknowledge the Armenian genocide.
breaktheice89 17th-Nov-2012 10:10 pm (UTC)
lol sit down. she has every right to resent turkey, since the government and the majority of turkish people still refuse to acknowledge and apologize for the genocide on armenians to this day. khloe even stated that the current generation isn't at fault for this, but she wouldn't be comfortable with her husband playing for a turkish team. and i say this as a turkish person who doesn't like the kardashians
duckyduck92 17th-Nov-2012 11:21 pm (UTC)

I watch the show and she has never said she or her family hates turkish people. in the video, which is poor quality sorry, I think what she said is pretty fair.
miss_kate18 18th-Nov-2012 09:35 am (UTC)
If I was Armenian I'd probably feel the same way too.
emologues 17th-Nov-2012 09:05 pm (UTC)
she looks very pretty.

my facebook is a battlezone right now. i go to a school with a very large jewish population and a lot of people are going absolutely insane if anyone says anything pro-palestine. i understand it's a delicate topic but good god disagreeing with the israeli government=/=anti-semitic
levant_85 17th-Nov-2012 09:11 pm (UTC)
I'm guessing that they don't realize that there are plenty of Jews against the state of Israel.
quizblorg 17th-Nov-2012 09:18 pm (UTC)
Lots of Jews are critical of Israel, but not many Jews are "against" it, thankfully.
quizblorg 17th-Nov-2012 09:19 pm (UTC)
Pro-Palestine or pro-Hamas? There's a difference.
pauldrons 17th-Nov-2012 09:47 pm (UTC)
good god disagreeing with the israeli government=/=anti-semitic

This. A thousand times, this. I don't understand why this is so hard for some people to grasp. Fucking hell.
t3pps 17th-Nov-2012 09:08 pm (UTC)
She should stick to what she knows best- slurp and derp. Her faux concern for others is sickening.
bollyhood 17th-Nov-2012 09:17 pm (UTC)
Full wallet and an empty brain.
She probably could not point to Israel or the Palestinian territory's on a map.
kim_vz 17th-Nov-2012 09:18 pm (UTC)
It doesn't make you dumb though, not being able to point every country in the world on a map ...
bollyhood 17th-Nov-2012 09:21 pm (UTC)
What is the point of this comment?
kenzainfluenza 17th-Nov-2012 09:58 pm (UTC)
it does tho.
chicaintcheap 17th-Nov-2012 11:22 pm (UTC)
it does when you're taking a stance on events happening in that country...
duckyduck92 17th-Nov-2012 11:26 pm (UTC)
israel tho?
quizblorg 17th-Nov-2012 09:20 pm (UTC)
Since Israelis are the ones who were attacked, it makes sense to mention them first.
emologues 17th-Nov-2012 09:22 pm (UTC)
so the 19 palestinian civilians killed are just peanuts then?
celtic_thistle 17th-Nov-2012 09:25 pm (UTC)
Obviously they're all terrorists, and if not, oh well, it's their own fault for existing while Palestinian, amirite
quizblorg 17th-Nov-2012 09:27 pm (UTC)
The death of civilians is always tragic. But there's a stark moral difference between attack and self-defense (even if the latter involves innocents coming to harm), and between the deliberate targetting of civilians and collateral damage.
levant_85 17th-Nov-2012 09:30 pm (UTC)
Actually 40 Palestinian civilians died, not 19. Only 3 Israelis were killed.

But 1 Israeli life is far more important than 40 Palestinian lives.

silky_pico 17th-Nov-2012 09:30 pm (UTC)
you're talking to a zionist, just ignore him.
celtic_thistle 17th-Nov-2012 09:20 pm (UTC)
Her face still pisses me off.

Also, fuck Israel for what they're STILL doing to Palestine.
prophecypro 17th-Nov-2012 09:21 pm (UTC)
I think she's over apologizing now. I didnt even care that she said pray for Israelis only tbh and I'm pro-Palestinian in this conflict. Its like whatever, its Kim Kardashian not the UN Secretary who sent that tweet. Non-sotry
nicholasdee 17th-Nov-2012 09:31 pm (UTC)
how the fuck were people offended that she prayed for people in war zones

the ire towards israel and israelis is so disgusting I can't even
celtic_thistle 17th-Nov-2012 09:56 pm (UTC)
Um no. She said she was praying for Israel when 3 people have been killed there. After a barrage of Tweets, she included Palestine, where 40+ civilians, including infants, have been killed indiscriminately.

It's not like they're on equal footing, here. Israel has forced Palestinians into smaller and smaller spaces and then blasts the shit out of them when they get upset over it.

Fuck the Israeli government.
levant_85 17th-Nov-2012 10:05 pm (UTC)
This.
how_vintage 17th-Nov-2012 11:47 pm (UTC)
Love you in this thread!
kenzainfluenza 17th-Nov-2012 10:01 pm (UTC)
40 innocent ppl were murdered in Palestine , how about some prayer for them??? or are israeli victims more valuable than arab ones!?!??!?!
hera_bearrra 17th-Nov-2012 10:03 pm (UTC)
People are outraged because Israeli lives seem to matter more than Palestinian lives, particularly in America. Just look at the headlines.
vivisexion 17th-Nov-2012 10:11 pm (UTC)
dude wat. the us media is focusing 100% on israelis being killed, ignoring the fact that far more palestinians have died. why should i not have some ire toward israel rn?
cossard 17th-Nov-2012 09:48 pm (UTC)
the western media is so obviously biased in its reporting of this conflict (if they report at all) that i'm not surprised that kim, or anyone w only a passing interest/knowledge of politics for that matter, would just assume israel is the one desperately in need of prayer. it definitely would have been better for her to have not said anything at all but there was obviously no malintent in what she did say. she said something that offended people and she's obviously trying to make it right. ontd's hate-boner for her really isn't cute at all tbh. she's fucking harmless.
