The Wanted: 'We Brought One Direction Rivalry On Ourselves'


So the boyband battle between One Direction and The Wanted stepped up a notch this week when 1D's Louis Tomlinson told the 'I Found You' singers: "If you want to create that rivalry, then lets do it."

But The Wanted lads have backed away from a full scale war by playing down their rivalry, admitting: "We brought it on ourselves".

Even though I don't have a dog in this "fight", The Wanted are gross (one girl I know met them in Australia and they called fans 'rapey' or some shit), so they can leave.

This was a fast turn around from max basically saying let's fight it out what like a week ago? lol I was hoping for a really awkward dance battle ala west side story or something.

It's crazy how the wanted basically screwed themselves over in america by saying a couple stupid things to the media. Like they can still be big but i don't think they can touch one direction levels unless their next media tour is far more contained and well orchestrated. No calling established artists bitches or talks about fucking groupies and don't play up the rivalry cuz crazy directioners are like fucking rogue CIA operatives.

Let them just record an awkward gary barlow led children in need single and call this a day...or wait for a 3rd lesser boyband to come out so they can sort of both mock them from the vantage point of superiority ala BSB and Nsync over 98 degrees.

EDIT Don't type essays on ONTD while working on other shit lol

tbh i don't think any of those things is what limited their success in the us, they just came out at the wrong time. 1d are the boyband champs rn, no doubt about it, tw never stood a chance.

the rivalry, if you can call it that, was pushed by the media from the start. two irish/british boybands trying to break america at the same time? that's a tabloids wet dream.

neither of them will ever reach bsb/nsync success and ppl are desperate for a repeat of it.

Thats such bullshit when they say 1d is for 10 year olds and they are for 16 to 20 , the fabs i know, especially here are 20+

Yeah, 1D obviously appeal to teenagers and young adults, but they definitely have a younger audience too (when I went to see them on tour in May with a few of my friends, we had a conversation with a cute little 5 year old while in line for food lol).

TW appeal to a similar age group as 1D, maybe slightly older and with more males just bc of their singles being played in clubs and stuff, but their audience doesn't include kids as young as 1D's. Which is what I think what Tom was trying to get at, but he fails at speaking so... yeah. :P

They probably get asked about this so-called "rivalry" all the time, but tbh both groups could take the high road and not comment on it, or say something other than the things they've said.

But just for the record, my bb Nathan has said nothing but nice things about 1D.

They've only ever addressed this whole thing with good humor, it's only Louis who's been nasty about it, and he seems to have goaded Liam into to making some unfortunate comments. But then Louis picks fights with everyone, he can't seem to help it.
