Music Infographic Multi-post!

You might not have Justin Bieber's glasses or Madonna's tights. You may not have Lady Gaga's facial implants, Jim Morrison's liver or Sergei Rachmaninoff's hat. However, there is something you do have in common with all of the musicians above: you can be measured on a height chart!

Admit, you judge bands by their fashion choices. That's the whole point of having a style - it's a quick way to tell people what you're all about. But it takes a special kind of music geek to judge a band by their gear. To look at a stage and decide whether a band is any good or not based on whether they play Fenders or BC Riches.

In his 2008 book, Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell argues that one of the keys to success is an investment of 10,000 hours of practice. The musicians featured in this infographic, including Caribou's Dan Snaith, Chromeo's David Macklovich and Buffy Sainte-Marie, have not only managed to put in the time to become experts in their genres, but have somehow found the time to acquire doctorates as well. In the infographic below, we break them down by artist, genre and field of study with surprising results.

Lol I'm between lil kim and gaga.
I did not realize Rachmaninoff was so tall.
Also, it's funny that a lot of musicians have degrees in science. My mind was blown when I found out that dexter holland has a masters in molecular bio

It's really not that surprising if you think about it. The skills that you use when studying/composing music at a theoretical level are pretty similar to the skills used in higher level maths and sciences.

My BF is a music major and when he starts talking to me about music theory is sounds like gobbelty-gook. It's quite scientific and analytical. He's really good at math and science so it's a good fit for him.
