Elle Fanning makes headlines with her 'ugly geisha-style' Prada shoes at Breaking Dawn premiere

The 14-year-old stepped out in a pair of beribboned platform Prada sandals which were likened to "orthopedic sandals for geishas".

The shoes, which appeared as if they were made of plastic bricks, pink ribbon and chrome leather, made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

"These ugly a... shoes have a serious identity crisis," wrote DListed. "They don't know if they want to be platform flip-flops, a Jenga tower, Getas on growth hormones or moon shoes for My Little Ponies. The only thing they do know is that they want to be as ugly as possible."

While VH1 said: "What. Are. Those. Monstrosities. Elle seems to be totally thrilled with her kicks, but they scream Spice Girls knock-offs to us."

Fanning was at the premiere to support her older sister, Dakota, who stars as Jane, one of the evil vampires in the final installment of the "Twilight" franchise.

When I was 14 I bought these really ugly blue strappy platforms for a choir performance. They were beyond hideous, but I thought they were super fabulous and wanted to wear them everywhere, but my mom wouldn't let me.

I don't care for the shiny silver straps and the pale ribbon... it'd look better with one or the other.
