Sam Raimi to adapt YA sensation ANGELFALL

Good Universe to Adapt 'Angelfall' With Sam Raimi Producing

Good Universe and Sam Raimi are teaming to develop an adaptation of the postapocalyptic angel-themed young-adult book Angelfall.

The company, Raimi and his producing partner Robert Tapert have picked up movie rights to the Susan Ee-penned tome as well as the series Penryn & the End of Days, in which Angelfall is the first book. Raimi will produce with Tapert.

Angelfall was released Aug. 28 by Amazon Children's Publishing but previously had generated heat as a self-published e-book. It was a finalist for the 2011 Cybils award for best young-adult fantasy and science fiction and was ranked No. 1 on Goodreads' list of best independent novels.

The story is set weeks after angels of the apocalypse wreak revenge against mankind for the killing of Archangel Gabriel. When 17-year-old Penryn fails to escort her mother and wheelchair-bound sister to safety, she teams with a handsome young angel with clipped wings, braving evil seraphs, human gangs and cannibals in a quest to find her sister.
Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will executive produce.

Paradigm repped Ee in the deal. (The agency's Lucy Stille first read Angelfall as an e-book.) Aaron Lam brought the book to the producers. Nicole Brown will oversee for Good Universe.

I know this is an ONTD favorite, which makes the second bit of news more awesome you guys - BOOK TWO IS COMING OUT ONE YEAR FROM NOW. Gah, that's 2 years of waiting since book one. Blah. And yes, the uninitiated, this one is legit good.

is this ok for an 11 year old (12 in january) to read? she reads like crazy and i need some xmas ideas and this seems up her alley. she loved the hunger games, harry potter, scorpion races, some james patterson series, etc.

i don't think so, but i wouldn't recommend the hunger games either. if she liked it... it has some dark moments.

it might sound fluff but what about percy jackson? it's light and really funny.

thanks! :) i think i'll check to see if she's read percy and save this for when she's older.

No, definitely not. Angelfall is pretty dark than the normal YA book. There's some gore and violence--cannibalism and other really dark shit.

My cousin is that age and likes the Percy Jackson series and Maximum Ride (which might be the Patterson series). She also liked THG.

This book is much darker to me though so I'm not sure if I'd recommend for a kid that age.

Has she read the Abhorsen trilogy? I was obsessed with that when I was 12. If she likes fantasy she might like it.

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner! The the next few books. They are so so so good.

Oh and The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley. Then The Blue Sword. Beauty and Spindle's End would be good for a 12 year old.

When I was that age, I loved the Darkangel trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce.
