Sam Raimi to adapt YA sensation ANGELFALL

Good Universe to Adapt 'Angelfall' With Sam Raimi Producing

Good Universe and Sam Raimi are teaming to develop an adaptation of the postapocalyptic angel-themed young-adult book Angelfall.

The company, Raimi and his producing partner Robert Tapert have picked up movie rights to the Susan Ee-penned tome as well as the series Penryn & the End of Days, in which Angelfall is the first book. Raimi will produce with Tapert.

Angelfall was released Aug. 28 by Amazon Children's Publishing but previously had generated heat as a self-published e-book. It was a finalist for the 2011 Cybils award for best young-adult fantasy and science fiction and was ranked No. 1 on Goodreads' list of best independent novels.

The story is set weeks after angels of the apocalypse wreak revenge against mankind for the killing of Archangel Gabriel. When 17-year-old Penryn fails to escort her mother and wheelchair-bound sister to safety, she teams with a handsome young angel with clipped wings, braving evil seraphs, human gangs and cannibals in a quest to find her sister.
Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will executive produce.

Paradigm repped Ee in the deal. (The agency's Lucy Stille first read Angelfall as an e-book.) Aaron Lam brought the book to the producers. Nicole Brown will oversee for Good Universe.

I know this is an ONTD favorite, which makes the second bit of news more awesome you guys - BOOK TWO IS COMING OUT ONE YEAR FROM NOW. Gah, that's 2 years of waiting since book one. Blah. And yes, the uninitiated, this one is legit good.

a ya book that ontd can collectively agree isn't total shit? will definitely check it out, then.

ONTD at one point collectively agreed that Twilight wasn't total shit (until the movies got ridiculously big) so proceed with caution.

tbf Twilight is only total shit if you're expecting a masterpiece. For what it is (a mediocre teen romance novel), it's really not that terrible and it gets more crap than it deserves.

I think it's total shit but people still go way overboard with hating it.

Tru. That reminds me of this one post my friend made.

"basically the twilight hate is less centered around it being a really unhealthy portrayal of romance and generally bad writing and more about making fun of the teenage girls who read it, which i’m not here for, ever."

I HAAAATE that shit. As much as I loathe Twilight, I cannot fucking stand the misogyny behind bashing the female fans.

I have to disagree. It's definitely total shit. I think the "ironic fandom" crowd are trying too hard, however.

Angelfall was probably the shittiest book I've read this year. It's the book that finally made me stop trusting Goodreads reviews.

I tend to not trust goodreads reviews anyway, ever since finding out that authors will pad them out with ~secret accounts.
