ONTD Roundup

My physics professor literally had to take out questions from our exam when he was grading them because NO ONE GOT THEM. Shaking my damn head. He's such a nice guy, and I just don't understand why he insists that his tests be like, Satan's comic strips. I got a 45.2 on the exam, and sadly that's better than what I was expecting. My lab partner who's very smart (she got a 102 on our last organic chemistry exam) did even worse than I did. I'm so over this shit. I don't know what he expects when he puts problems on there that are 10x harder than anything we've gone over in lecture and the homework. The stuff we have gone over is hard enough; why does he have to put shit on there we've never seen before?

What's your major? I get super annoyed when professors include stuff you didn't cover on exams and then practically expect you to know the responses already. My history teacher usually does study reviews before the test so for the second exam he didn't do one and we all did bad lmao. He didn't take out a full point off every wrong questions, only like .75 so if he didn't do that, I would've gotten a D. Luckily he did and I ended up getting a C :)! I'm sorry about your class though

My major is biology, but I eventually will transfer into pre-physical therapy for my bachelor's. Our test was pushed back due to Hurricane Sandy, so I guess he figured we had five extra days to study. But I had an organic chem exam the night before the physics one, and I prioritized that exam because I felt I could do ok with that if I studied enough, so I didn't get to focus on the physics one as much as I wanted even though we had extra time. He told me we'd "talk about it", so idk what he's going to suggest for me. I can't believe I'm doing better in organic fucking chemistry.

Man I applaud you! I could never take both physics and organic chemistry together. I'm supposed to take physics because my major is meteorology but I'm dreading it! Chemistry as well. Ugh! I really hope your professor works with you so you can pass the class!

my art history teacher did that fucking shit all the damn time. And she was always going on about her Yale education.

Come test time, she could never understand why everyone was confused. I was so pissed I had to drop the class, and some people just stopped showing, it was insane.

She no longer teacher art history anymore.

I mean, I like the guy a lot. I had him for chemistry last fall, and I was relieved that he would be my physics professor; I just CANNOT handle and prepare for his exams. I'll probably have to end up withdrawing, and I can't help but feel disappointed in myself. I know I'm not the only one who has trouble with this class, but I still feel like a giant fuckup at the end of the day.

sorry bb, i hate when professors do, that like wtf are you thinking?
yousaidlog 14th-Nov-2012 06:15 pm (UTC)
idgi, either. After I took the first exam, I told him that my main issue was that I wasn't able to connect the problems on the exam to the homework, that it felt like I was looking at the material for the first time. If I study the homework enough, I feel like I could probably do questions that are similar, but the exams are always like, the homework on steroids. I don't understand. I'm about to go all out and sob in his office. I can't take this shit anymore. He said that I should be able to take the concepts we learned in class and apply them to the problems on the exams. But I just can't.

my old physics teacher was the same way lol. hed go over everything in such basic terms in lecture and then expected us to do homework without problems. the final was the most ridiculous and hardest exam i have ever taken. his questions were incomprehensible. i would not be surprised if no one passed it.
youdontknowher 14th-Nov-2012 06:11 pm (UTC)
sounds like my general/inorganic chem prof. i really liked him as a person, but his general chem final featured an extended orgo section, and made a girl break down in tears.

You have my sympathies. When my HS physics teacher went on maternity leave the guy who filled in for her had been a physics major and explained a question we all missed on a test was literally impossible to solve.

Do you think he'll curve at the end of the semester? That happened to me in Chem once, even the TAs had trouble with the tests and the class ended up curving a whole letter grade.
yousaidlog 14th-Nov-2012 06:26 pm (UTC)
Probably not, but he really should considering how awful the exams are. I honestly think every professor should curve, tbh.
ohtheglorious 14th-Nov-2012 08:18 pm (UTC)
Ugh that's horrible, bb :(. I'm so lucky that my physics prof is so nice and reasonable with his exams. He will put say 38 questions on the test and only grade you out of 35, so there are already 3 freebie points, plus he will drop questions if most of the class misses them. I have a high A in this class, and I'm soooo happy because I DESPISED physics in high school and had so much trouble with it even though I had a tutor. The professor really makes or breaks the class, unfortunately :(. Can you take someone else for physics 2?
yousaidlog 14th-Nov-2012 08:37 pm (UTC)
He's the only professor there for physics. I'm supposed to get my associate's and transfer after this semester, but I dunno if I can graduate because I most likely won't be passing physics. At the college I'm at now, physics 1 is only available in the fall, so if I choose not to transfer after this semester, I have to wait a whole year to retake it here. I'll probably have to retake it at the other college, but that scares me too because it'll be a bigger class, and I'm afraid it'll be even harder at a four-year college. I have no idea what to do.
