Oscar posts are back - An Intro for the 2012 - 2013 Season

"I have met certain people whom I automatically would never vote for because I didn’t like the 30 seconds that I spent with them." He (director James Toback) refused to name names ("the list is too long"), but added, "Listen, anyone who says that the Oscars is not a popularity contest is lying through his teeth. People vote for their friends and they vote against the people they don’t like. I would almost say that one in ten voters that I’ve known over the years actually do it legitimately, if there is such a thing."
.
( Behold, the thrifty 30: this year's leading candidates to earn at least two nominations for Oscar in picture, director, acting, screenplay, foreign language and animation.Collapse )
btw, if anyone has suggestions for things they want to see in these posts, or if you wanna contribute something to them in general, feel free to say so in the comments.

We’re getting a bit of a late start this year, but that’s ok – in the next few weeks, we’ll make up for lost time, getting everybody caught up on the campaigns, slander, underhanded Weinstein moves and general gossip going on during awards season.
The regular weekly posts, where we’ll put more of a focus on each of the main categories, will start tomorrow, and remain on Wednesdays until January 9th, the day before the Academy Award nominations are announced. Until then, let’s get warmed up with this list of potential Oscar hopefuls that Variety put together (and remember, these are movies that range from potential Best Picture nominations to mostly technical nods, so… no need to point out that “so-and-so has no shot at best picture” in the comments). Which of these have you already seen ONTD? Which ones that haven’t come out yet are you most looking forward to?

Emma was good too but they were just fantastic. Esp. Logan
best actor: seasoned white dude, seasoned white dude, young white dude, token minority, foreign dude
best actress: young and hot actress, older actress that won't win, older actress that won't win, older actress that won't win, token minority
best picture: shit, shit, shit, shit, REALLY expensive shit, shit, shit, over-hyped foreign film, shit, film featuring at least one token minority
fuck the academy.
it's not like there is more than one token minority being given any roles anyway :/
being a black actor in a film not made by tyler perry is basically a guarantee that you're getting nominated
who knows maybe quartet will make more of a splash
i want to see lincoln and les mis
I mean, I'd love for it to be bc rn I can't think of another song that's as popular + new in this year's releases, but y'know the rules with the academy and all...
also give her best cinematography, costume, directing, credit for best picture, best actor, fuck it just hand em out to her
eeeeeeeee IDC if they always diss my faves and make me cry; I still love Oscar season ♥
I love this time of the year. I thank ONTD for getting me into this bc I used to never watch movies.
I'm very curious about Lore now, I've only heard a little on it but it was mainly muted and not anything that stood out. Thanks for the rec
I need to know about it. I was slayed by the trailer alone.
NEEEEEED
Untouchables is also really good. I will cut a bitch if they make an American version.
Germany's Barbara is FANTASTIC so I definitely recommend it, not sure about its nom chances though.
The Untouchables will make it (weinstein, worldwide money maker, etc).
Belgium's Our Children could have an outside shot and critics seem to like it enough (I'm SO pissed I missed the screening here last weekend).
Denmark's A Royal Affair seems to be charming people too.
War Witch, Tabu, Beyond the Hills, After Lucia all probably have shit chances but are on my must list
