we used to fill the pencil trough on the inside of our desks with colored glue and let it dry into colorful gummy stretchers.
surefire14 15th-Nov-2012 08:44 pm (UTC)
I loved colored glue.

I'm trying to calculate how much my parents likely shelled out for my Scholastic book orders, and it's ridiculous tbh. But they were always so proud of how much I liked to read...

One of my life ambitions is to get my mom on the Price is Right, tbh. She would slay.
ohh_skinnylove 13th-Nov-2012 11:27 pm (UTC)
I went on with my mom last summer & they do like a 5 min interview with up to 10 people at a time beforehand & ask your name/where you're from/what you do & that's how they choose contestants, it's definitely not random. We didn't get picked :(
champagnexdream 14th-Nov-2012 01:15 am (UTC)
I went with a bunch of random people from my college back in 2005, and the one dude who didn't actually need the money got picked, lmfao. He was the last person to get called to Contestants' Row and he got onstage because the other contestants were idiots. Shit quality but:

He sold the car. MUST BE NICE, NICK. MUST. BE. NICE. ;x
yummyhead2toe 13th-Nov-2012 10:00 pm (UTC)

Tricked out pencil cases.
williammiller 13th-Nov-2012 10:02 pm (UTC)

tiarlynn 13th-Nov-2012 11:02 pm (UTC)

coldharbourlove 13th-Nov-2012 11:05 pm (UTC)

gigglyvapidslut 13th-Nov-2012 10:01 pm (UTC)

lexification03 13th-Nov-2012 10:01 pm (UTC)
I AM HERE FOR THIS EVEN THOUGH I NEED TO RUN MY STORE RN!

holy crap book orders were my entire elementary school existence.

also parachute day was the shit
starchit 14th-Nov-2012 12:29 am (UTC)
LOL loving this totally appropriate icon too!
ciara_belle 13th-Nov-2012 10:01 pm (UTC)
Book fair day was the best. I still have a ton of the books I ordered. Also, Bill Nye the Science Guy.

And the list is definitely missing Carmen Sandiego - the show and the game. I am forever bitter that I never got to be a contestant on any of the awesome 90s kid gameshows. I wanted to be on Legends of the Hidden Temple and Where in the World (or Where in Time) is Carmen Sandiego in the worst way.
anchors_oceans 13th-Nov-2012 10:35 pm (UTC)
fuck hidden temple. i would have FOR SURE assemble that damn monkey faster than most of those kids.
heyx_lyla 17th-Nov-2012 03:33 am (UTC)
This is days later but SERIOUSLY, how did so many kids mess up that monkey?! There were only three pieces!
timeofdying 13th-Nov-2012 10:48 pm (UTC)
I wanted to be on Figure It Out like no other.

I saw the new version of it the other week. smh so hard.
tiki876 13th-Nov-2012 10:53 pm (UTC)
Bowing at ur icon
ivysaur 14th-Nov-2012 02:02 am (UTC)
So did I. And I was enough of a geography/history nerd that I probably would have owned at Carmen Sandiego.
chaquitalicia04 14th-Nov-2012 07:46 pm (UTC)
I have a Hidden Temple team shirt that I bought on clearance from Hot Topic a couple years ago for $6. Best purchase of my life, tbh.
papillonsoldier 13th-Nov-2012 10:01 pm (UTC)
Lisa Frank everything! Overalls and tye-dye shirts!

but bookfairs were my SHIT. I got all those nifty erasers and bookmarks...and maybe a few books.
anydoppelganger 13th-Nov-2012 10:02 pm (UTC)
lisa frank is definitely missing on this list. i could look at those folders for hours.
she_slips_away 13th-Nov-2012 10:07 pm (UTC)
Over the weekend, Drunk Me got on a really weird tangent, and wound up introducing my boyfriend via Google Images to the wonderful world of Lisa Frank school supplies.

He's 25 (so total 90's kid) and has a sister close in age, and a mother who was a school teacher. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell he managed live this long without knowing Lisa Frank. Such an integral part of the aesthetic of my youth.
deceitful 13th-Nov-2012 10:11 pm (UTC)
ngl but I still have one or two (a few) Lisa Frank folders with various documents in them in a box somewhere.
surefire14 15th-Nov-2012 08:47 pm (UTC)
ngl I am a grad student and bought a couple of Lisa Frank folders and notebooks this year. They don't have all of the great characters from childhood but they still make me smile. I also recently found a mini notebook with the seal pup and my box where I kept my stickers that had the shih tzu with all of the jewelry. Tons of Lisa Frank stickers in there. I felt like I found buried treasure.
cuteej4 13th-Nov-2012 11:07 pm (UTC)
Ugh. I loved going to the store to tye dye my shirts
paranoiattaque 13th-Nov-2012 11:13 pm (UTC)

frenchoral 13th-Nov-2012 10:01 pm (UTC)
OMG I LOVED STORYBOOK WEAVER

I blame it for my unreasonable aspirations of being a writer LOL

I would always choose the space backgrounds.
masterofmystery 13th-Nov-2012 10:01 pm (UTC)
i still have a massive shelf full of cheap books i bought off that scholastic book list. i LIVED for that shit as a kid
chaquitalicia04 14th-Nov-2012 07:48 pm (UTC)
Same. I am moving, and have dug up several of them, but I refuse to throw them away. It's not like my 26 year old ass is going to read them, but I just can't part with them.
chiixhideki 13th-Nov-2012 10:01 pm (UTC)
i remember slaying bitches in pokemon battles at school

one asshole would get so mad he would shut off the game before he could actually lose

she_slips_away 13th-Nov-2012 10:01 pm (UTC)
Perfect list. All of these items played a SIGNIFICANT role in my elementary/middle school life during the 90s. God, that parachute thing was my happy place.
