I love John Green and I like (most of) his novels but he is so fucking overrated. It pisses me off how his writing is put up on this pedestal and is considered the best writing in recent YA. I hate it.
I do think he is a truly talented storyteller but his novels are not extraordinary. They're just good, sometimes great, and sometimes mediocre. I hate how he reuses all the same tropes and how all of his narrators share the exact same voice and personality and all of his supporting characters are exactly the same.
That said, he's a really nice man and really funny and writes good books. But I wish people would realize that there are other, and better, YA books on the market right now.
