To be fair most models nowadays are from the developing world like Eastern Europe and Russia. There is so much poverty in those areas, Romania actually has the highest amount of homeless kids in the West. These models were forced into modelling because they need to survive so they do it for money and survival.
The models from Western Europe and North America probably do it for the fame and recognition though. Some girls may do it for confidence, others do it to escape from poverty.
I have a very dear friend who came to the states from Romania when she was 13- her whole family came over because her dad won a visa lottery- and her mom would tell me horror stories about how women are treated and objectified in that part of the world, which is why she gave up everything to come to the USA, because she wanted her kids to have all the opportunities that there are here... so I understand it from that point of view, but... the girl in question for this article is American, no?
I mean, obviously, we will all delude our common sense a little when we REALLY want something to be "the chance" we've been waiting for- and I wouldn't blame someone for being duped, but, I think especially in that industry, you need to have your bullshit detectors working more overtime than usual.
