Revolution "Kashmir" Promo

SRC

So, how many ONTD'ers have given up on this show?
After all of his tireless begging and pleading, Kripke finally gets to use Led Zeppelin music. "Supernatural" fans must be pressed.

I have tried to watch last week's episode 4 times now and I get about 3 minutes further into the episode before I get bored. I just don't give a shit about any of these characters (except maybe the geeky bearded guy, but even he annoys me 70% of the time).

Now, if they recast Charlie, I'd probably consider watching again.

LBR, they need to just kill her off; and, make the show all about Nora, Miles, and Aaron

Now THAT would be a major upgrade! But no, they kill off Maggie, the most harmless (and possibly smartest) person on the show and somehow Charlie gets a pass? I call bullshit.

Maggie's death affected me so fucking much, which I didn't expect.
Bullshit, indeed. She was such an amazing character; and, the actress was great (aside from her distracting yellow teeth :/)

As much as I enjoy Aaron, LBR his ass would have been killed long ago. No way should have Maggie died before him.

I know, I was surprised by how sad I was when Maggie died. I thought she had the most fascinating backstory on the show. It's like the writers put all their good character development skills into developing Maggie, and then said, "Whew, that was way too difficult. Don't think we can do this again. Let's just kill her."

Seriously, Aaron is fun but he wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes without Maggie there to help. And now he has Nora to save his ass. How long til she dies? (I'm not nearly as invested in her as Maggie though, so whatever haha)

This is how it is for me, too. I liked the British woman, but she's gone.

Maggie (the British woman) was great. They developed her character, more so than anyone else, and then they killed her off? What was that?!
musicpsych 13th-Nov-2012 06:51 am (UTC)
I know! That was kind of epic, to think about her traveling up and down the country to try to find a way to return to her kids. I think they killed her off to show that some of these set-pieces along the way could have consequences for some of the major characters. But they wasted an interesting character in doing that.

Exactly! How sad that the most likeable character on the show was used as collateral for the sake of the other rather irritating (and poorly casted) characters. It's a wonder how long Aaron (the fun geek) has lasted, seeing as he's the only other character on the show who seems remotely tolerable, though Miles is admittedly pretty bad ass.
musicpsych 13th-Nov-2012 07:41 am (UTC)
I think Aaron is supposed to be the "audience surrogate," but he seems both too successful in his former life and too much of a geek/loser in his current life to identify with or relate to. I keep thinking that he's the Hurley of the show (if you watched Lost), only there's something Hurley had that he doesn't.

And I didn't know this, but that was exactly it:

http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/10/11/revolution-eric-kripke-answers/

Revolution‘s latest episode featured the death of a character who fans previously expected to be a long-running regular. Kripke explained his thinking behind the decision to kill her off so early: “I sort of have a bad habit in the shows I run of killing off the people that I love. And I think Maggie was one of those. We decided internally very early on that it was really important to show that this world had very real stakes and that it was truly dangerous because you’re not close to hospitals, you’re not close to paramedics, you’re not close to help. We very quickly realized that the scariest thing we could do was to kill the doctor among them.”

"We very quickly realized that the scariest thing we could do was to kill the doctor among them.”

They killed the doctor, but they also killed the heart of show. Their reason is certainly legitimate but it doesn't make it any less frustrating.

It also made me realize why I can't stand shows by JJ Abrams and/or Eric Kripke. I loved Lost up until Charlie died in season 3, and that's when I called it quits. He was my favorite, and for him to go the way he did, I was outraged, haha

That's an interesting parallel you drew between Aaron on Revolution and Hurley on Lost. I hadn't even thought about that, but you're right, their characterizations are very similar. Hurley was still better though, without a doubt!

Yeah, I stuck with Lost, but I got annoyed with how they killed off characters I liked, starting with Boone and Shannon, then Mr. Eko, Libby, (maybe) Ana Lucia. I was surprised Sun made it all the way to the end. And you're right, it's like they started to develop the characters only to kill them off.

I can understand wanting to kill off characters for the sake of the drama/story, but I think if they do it too much, it cheapens it. That seemed to happen with Joss Whedon shows, too.
