“Sex In America” Will Reveal What’s Really Going On In Peoples’ Bedrooms



Must watch series alert! “Sex In America,” part of the Discovery Channel’s CURIOSITY series, airs its first episode this Sunday. It will explore the results of the recent sex survey done at Indiana University, where more than 5,000 people were polled and asked all sorts of questions about their sex lives. The survey took place at the same institution where Alfred Kinsey first published the results of his study 60 years ago, so it’s essentially an update on the sex lives of Americans.

“We thought it was time to find out how sexual behavior had changed,” said Debby Herbenick, who led the study.  “It wasn’t just people who were young, people who were white or just people who had a certain level of education.  The poll included all kinds of Americans.”

Finally. We’re going to find out what people are really up to in the bedroom. Specifically, we’ll get updates on the orgasm gap, oral sex, preferred sexual positions, masturbation, bisexuality and how we choose our partners, and how hookup culture has affected our sexual behavior. We’ll even get to see behind the scenes of a human behavior study where strangers are forced to spend time together in a dark room and see how far they’ll go when they think no one is watching them. It’s like reality TV, but really real.

This sounds both scientific-y and titillating. I will be watching.

So for those who are in committed relationships, how often do you have sex? My boyfriend of four years and I have sex like once a month. It's enough for him, but I wish it was more often.

when i was with my old boyfriend of 2 years, we were at once every 2 weeks to once a week.

my husband and i go about once every week to once every two weeks. i'd like it more often, but i can't complain since it was getting to be once every month/month and a half for awhile there.

Usually two days a week, since the bf and I only see each other on weekends, but most days, we'll have sex 2-3 times, so a total of 4-5 times a week.

We're at five years, and we go about 2-3 times a week, and then oral thrown in there on the other days.

Been with my boyfriend for 2years and he's good with sex like once every one to two weeks.

I like to have sex like 5x a day, and did with my ex.

I'm STILL transitioning.

me and my boyfriend of 2 years are usually maybe like twice a week. it would probably be more if we lived together. we don't see each other every day, and a lot of days we're exhausted and just want cuddles.

not often enough, but we both live with our families and he's a graduate student and i'm (hopefully) relocating in january, so... twice a month (1-3 during each ~sex session~). if i do move, it's only going to get worse :'(

My partner and I have been together for 5 years and we're not jumping each other's bones every second like we did when we were first together but we both have high sex drives so still usually do it at least once every day. Sometimes it doesn't work out that way, but I definitely feel like I'm a happier person when I'm getting laid regularly. It makes me productive.

I've been with my boyfriend for almost 7 months and we do it a couple times a day. It's kind of insane but I'm never tired of doing it that much.

Been with my partner for 2 years, we have sex about once a week, maybe every two weeks. I could totally use tips though, he'd love to have more sex but I just never had that much desire for it, with any partner ever, can't help but wonder if there are any tricks to help me a bit though

It ebbs and flows for me and my BF. Sometimes we do it a few times a day and sometimes we go a few days without doing it. We've been together for almost three years.

The longest we went without sex was four months when I was out of the country for my study abroad last year.

I'm in a LDR now, but before I moved my bf and I were having sex like 2-3 times a day on average. Now since I moved away, whenever we get to see each other I'm pretty sure it's at least 4-5 times a day. Gotta make up for lost time :)

we've been together 12 years, married 7, and do every other day. honestly, i could go longer without, but my husband gets really cranky & grumpy if it's more than 2 days.

One to three times a week. We've been batting at one lately since we don't live together and are on completely opposite work schedules (I'm overnight, he's usually early mornings/mid-afternoon).

I've had the same problem with my bf for a while now (together 6 years) and there have been times where I told him I couldn't see it working out for that reason. But honestly, after telling him, he makes the effort. Sadly, when he makes the effort I'm the one who isn't up for it so I just let it go at this point. lol. Maybe things will change if/when we live together. Regulate on your man, make him put in some more effort! ;)

every time i see him, we normally end up doing it around 3-4 times. at the moment, i see him around 3 times a week.

probably would be more if we lived together. i'm not bragging or anything lol, we're just bored and horny.

About once a week, maybe, I mean we'll usually fool around, oral, etc during the week but it's better when we both have the day off together to just spend time on it.

Maybe twice a week, but only because we see each other twice a week (I live in NJ and he lives in Staten Island). Have you talked to him about it? Does he just have a low sex drive?
