Rod Stewart calls himself 'silly' for tears at legendary football match

Rod Stewart has branded himself “silly” for sobbing uncontrollably as he watched his beloved soccer team win a crunch match this week.

The “Maggie May” hit maker was caught on camera breaking down in tears as he saw Scottish side Celtic beat Spain’s FC Barcelona 2-1 in a European Champions League game in Glasgow on Wednesday.

Stewart was shown footage of the incident during an appearance on Graham Norton’s U.K. talk show the following day, and confessed he was embarrassed by the emotional moment.

He told the audience, “Barcelona is supposed to be the best team in the world and they are brilliant. If you like football they are the best team to watch and they have such a huge bank account they can buy any player they want. Celtic, on the other hand, have a minimal bank account. So, to take them on and actually beat them is just wonderful… (I’m a) silly old sod.”

The interview with Stewart airs in the U.K. on Friday.

Elton John calls Neil Lennon to congratulate him

"I had a lot of texts from people in the game which was fantastic but I got a call yesterday (Thursday) from left field from Sir Elton John believe it or not, congratulating me," Lennon said Friday.

"I thought my missus was winding me up but it just shows you the interest it has generated among a lot of people.

"I don't think he was as emotional as Rod but he did tell me when he was chairman of Watford and they got to the 1984 FA Cup final (won by Everton) he was so emotional that he did cry before the game.

"He was very knowledgeable about the game and knew a lot about myself and it was great that he took time out to call me, as he is going to Australia on tour."

Lennon has had a long association with Celtic as both player and now manager yet, remarkably, has never met arguably the club's most famous fan.

"Do you know, I have never met Rod," Lennon said. "I didn't get the chance to see him after the game.

"He does e-mail me from time to time so I hope to get to meet him soon.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You seriously need to stop. You are waaaaay too emotional about this. Once again, my comment was just "you have your hobbies; we sports fans have ours".

lmao FFS, bb.

Way to avoid the question :(

For someone who cares so much about "their hobby" you have very little to say about it. This is particularly awesome because I IN NO SHAPE OR FORM asked you to defend your hobby - that was entirely your introduction. Awk as fuq that you can't do it now.

I'm not answering you question because I never implied ANYTHING you are accusing me off. I'm not trying to persuade you...at all. IDEGAF if you like football or any other sport.

This was my point: You have YOUR THING, we have OUR THING. No need to explain anything further. At all. The end.

THE END! Everyone is happy! Except you...you're weirdly neurotic. lol

What is "my thing" since I apparently implied that I have one?

Nothing ends a logical defense of your beliefs like "the end. you're weirdly neurotic."

This did take a great deal of my life to compose though, you're right.

Your thing is whatever thing you like! It's your hobby...whatever that may be. All I know is that it isn't sports, because you don't like sports.

Just step back, take a breath, and realize that my original comment was only 14 words with no deeper meaning than what I have written like a bajillion times (i.e., you like what you like and we like sports). That is that. No more to it.

Again, not defending anything. There's nothing to defend. But I'm sorry for calling you neurotic. That was mean and unnecessary.

We should go ahead and let this "discussion" go because it's more of a one-sided argument.

I still have yet to insult your enjoyment of sports. That is entirely in your head, so while I appreciate the conciliatory tone, it's hard to take this reply seriously when it contains no stance I've represented. Thanks for the apology for the 'neurotic' thing though - appreciated.

Nope, never took anything you said as an insult. I never even implied I was insulted by anything which, once again, is why I don't feel the need to defend myself. I've said there's nothing to defend a million times.

Nothing more to say on this subject. Have a good day!
