it is ignorable at first, but after the first season it's impossible to avoid. It becomes super frustrating cause the writers won't just get both sides over with and let the triangle end even though it's way over due at this point
idk, a lot of it revolves around the love triange, but i don't give a fuck about stefan/elena or damon/elena and i still watch the show. i don't really know why i watch it, but i do.
you can pretty much ignore it for the first season, and the show starts off pretty slow but really picks up after a few eps. season two was good, though they were staring to make it a little more obvious. i quit watching halfway into season 3, and from everything i hear on here and from other fans i know, the writing has continued to go downhill. all the show revolves around is love triangles now with some half-assed special snowflake plot thrown in for elena, maybe a few dashes of manpain for the boys. elena is depicted as compassionate, but she hardly gives her friends the time of day since she's too busy with the brothers she's involved with, not to mention everyone is so fixated on saving her when she hardly does anything for them. stefan grew on me and his storyline in season 3 started off promising, but it quickly became a mess and it's been kind of weird ever since. then there's the original vampires, half of which are a pair of losers and the other half who don't come out enough; personally, i feel like they introduced these characters too early in the show and that they would've been better off showing up in the final couple of seasons.
Lots of people I trust tell me to watch it but I cba with love triangles, is it ignorable?

it's not really ignorable in season 3 & the current one though.
my advice? don't watch it.
