Air New Zealand Introduces Hobbit-Inspired Safety Video


New Zealand loves the fact that Peter Jackson has returned to make The Hobbit films and we can't blame them -- we'd be pretty excited too! First the New Zealand Post revealed a bunch of legal tender coins that celebrate the occasion, then a massive sculpture of Gollum was constructed in an airport. Now, Air New Zealand has created a Middle-Earth inspired pre-flight safety video.


The video features flight attendants dressed as elves and a captain dressed as Gandalf the Grey. There's also a pretty cool cameo, but I'm not going to spoil it for you.



Apparently, the video was created with help from Weta Workshop, the effects and prop specialists who worked on the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and are currently working on Jackson's “The Hobbit” films.

Omg. I love them. New Zealand is my dream destination. It's paradise. If I could go anywhere, it would be there.

I love their accent, I love the people, I love the scenery. I once wrote a 20-page paper on the colonization of NZ. Want to be a kiwi, tbh.

..it really is just a country, let me disappoint you. Although, the Northern Island is. Never been to the South (/fake kiwi, can't take the pond), but ..just a country. Gorgeous in places but not a paradise.

Awww, lol. That's alright. You still didn't ruin the magic for me. From what one of my kiwi friends has shown me, it still seems like a wonderful place. I'm sure it's exquisite to visit (lol rhyme!) but I can see how it holds little novelty for you if you live there.

tbh, it's amazing. I say that as a foreigner living in NZ right now, lol. Maybe I'm overplaying it or something but it's seriously beautiful and astounds me every single day. I live in Queenstown on the South Island right now but spent a bit of time in the North Island as well and they're both beautiful.

To be fair i've been saying that i would be in NZ for the hobbit premiere since ROTK (before we even knew hobbit would be made, haha!).

It's my pilgrimage, trololol. Ugh on Tuesday I'll be in Hobbiton...SO SURREAL I CAN'T.

New Zealand is AWESOME. I spent 4 months there back in 2006 and I still count those the best 4 months of my life so far.

I flew AirNZ back then and I *wish* they did something like this, lol.

I visited the places they filmed, but none of the sets were still up. It's stunning though. I was about 14 and my Dad bought me my very own 'precious'.

My bf's family's from New Zealand (and my bf has duel citizenship). The house he lived in for only a year is BEAUTIFUL, you drive into a huge forest to get to the house.

Florence, Rome. Cinque Terre is absolute heaven!!
Skip Milan, it is nasty unless you really care to see the Duomo but then don't stay overnight.

I like Verona and the Garda Lake. Pisa is extremely touristic so avoid that and instead go to other villages/small cities in Tuscany, Sienna for example or San Marino (little place by the sea, very rustic).
I found Florence a bit overrated except for the gardens but I guess I'm just a snob.

Cinque Terre is beautiful, of course, so you could go walking there. Siena is also a great medieval city.

And go to the Amalfi coast! Naples is ok, but Sorrento is really beautiful and I liked Capri when I was there. I still want to go to Capri and go to the Blue Grotto. Positano is also really gorgeous. Actually, the whole Amalfi coast is pretty stunning.

I love Air New Zealand. My family moved there (from the UK) a few years ago, so I fly with them a lot.

Their old video had a bunch of All Blacks in and was rugby themed, but this is definitely better!
