Jared & Shannon Leto put their dog to sleep, tweet about it, I weep.

Last night, Jared Leto and his brother, Shannon, had to put their beloved Husky mix, Sky, to sleep. Both tweeted pictures of Sky, with Jared's photo slightly more emotional (both tweets under the cut).

That is my biggest fear for my cats, I hate letting them outside loose, the one I walk on the leash sometimes because he LOVES being outside, but all the times he has got loose he likes to start heading toward the road and I freak out.

Aw, beautiful dog.

I can't handle pet deaths and I'm dreading the day my lil pitbull passes away. :( Sweetest, smartest dog I've ever had.

My dog passed away two weeks ago in our living room...still miss him so much. My parents got a new dog a bit before we found out my old dog was sick, love him too but they're so different.

I'm hoping to see my baby one last time at xmas. I know it'll be the last. She won't make it another year. Ugh.

Why can't pets live forever!

She's 13 now, and has problems walking. It's so sad.

My dog died last year in our living room after being sick for a week or so. She wouldn't let any of us pick her up or move her (she weighed like 100lbs, so it was kind of hard to even if we wanted to). So we fed her by hand and with a turkey baster until the one day she just made some weird movement and passed away.

It was so scary because we all watched it happen. We knew it was coming, but I still cried forever after it happen. I still remember sitting down on the floor next to her a few days before it happened, crying, and telling her that it was okay to go and we all loved her.
everythngintime 8th-Nov-2012 06:42 pm (UTC)
oh my gosh i'm so sorry :(

That sounds really heartbreaking to have to go through. IDK if i could do it. You are brave bb and your dog was lucky that she had such a good family taking care of her til the very end.

Recently, I've been thinking about my bunny dying and I don't know why. Probably because he's getting older, but still. My old bunny died when no one was at home, and it still nags in the back of my mind. I hate that she passed away all alone :(

Ugh I'm ugly-crying right now reading the comments.

My dog will turn 13 soon. I don't know what I'm going to do when she's gone.

I try not to think about it and just focus on giving her the best life she can have.

This is Oscar. He's six months old and a menace (today he ripped a hole in my new jacket) but I love him so much that I can't even think about him getting older without tearing up.

RIP SKY. I think Huskies are so so beautiful

Does anyone have any experiencing in having a pet during college? It's my senior year, and I feel like adopting would be therapeutic for me (and I miss our pup at home), but I know it's a huge undertaking. I want to do well academically since my grades were less than stellar last year due to my anxiety issues. I just want some honest opinions so I can make an informed decision.
turkeybeer 8th-Nov-2012 08:43 pm (UTC)
I adopted my dog my Sophomore year of college. And yes, it was very hard. My hours were all over the place and I had to give up my social life for a while to be home to train and take care of her. It did help to have my family in the same town, so that if I knew I was going to be out for the weekend, she would stay with them. But honestly, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. It'll be 8 years in January since I got her, and she is my best friend. I think the most important thing is to choose a dog with a similar personality and energy level as yours. I would have been miserable if I had adopted a JRT or Husky, too much work and not my speed of dog.
sixseventytwo 8th-Nov-2012 11:35 pm (UTC)
Adopting a dog is a huge undertaking. I waited until after I graduated for this very reason. I'm currently in grad school part time. Having a family dog that your parents provide for is VERY VERY VERY different than having your own dog. Cats are a lot more low maintenance.
Think about it this way: having a dog changes your whole life, your whole schedule. Especially if you get a puppy (I am house training right now, and it fucking sucks beyond belief), which is even more work. Want to hang out with your friends after class or go see a movie right after work? Well, you can't, because your dog has been home alone all day and needs exercise and human companionship.
Dogs are also very expensive. If you're thinking about getting one, sit down and calculate your month by month and yearly costs. Include the costs of getting the dog boarded, start up supplies, flea/tick preventative, vet visits, and any money for medical emergencies.
Allllll of this being said, having your own dog is awesome. Since I've gotten my pup, I've been less depressed and more active and energetic. I love doing fun things like going to the dog park or going on a long walk exploring the neighborhood. I just want to encourage you to think very very hard and very long before adopting a dog.
Anyway, I adopted my dog from rescue after having a foster that did not work out for us due to behavioral issues, so my last piece of advice is to make sure to ASK the questions that are relevant to you regarding the dog's history, health and behavior.
likeparenthesis 8th-Nov-2012 11:36 pm (UTC)
I would say if anything, do not adopt a puppy or high energy breed/dog. I would say to adopt a dog that is already trained and does not need to be walked frequently/played with/given a lot of attention (unless you're up for it). Realistically look at your schedule, and if you have the time/energy to walk a dog 1-2 times a day, and be there to let them out and feed them every morning/afternoon. I dogsit and taking care of some dogs is just so tiring - they literally can be like babies. Other dogs are much more chill. Do a lot of research about different breeds, as well, before making a decision.

I've got two dogs and two cats.

Artemis (white one) and Sayid (grey one) https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/398958_10151811469610473_1444679562_n.jpg

Charlie https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/282324_10152240314190473_1612477062_n.jpg

Merlin https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/246642_10152150733910473_1723237665_n.jpg

I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. They're always there for me. When a boy broke my heart, they were in my bed with me when I didn't want to get out of it. When I got sick and was alone at home, moaning from the stomach pain, Sayid looked at me all scared and started meowing loudly and going around the house as if asking for help. Charlie was next to me, kissing me. Merlin hasn't been there for mr because he's only 3 months old. I don't know what I'd do if any one of them died. They're all so special and different. I JUST LOVE THEM A LOT.
