Jermaine Jackson Petitions To Change His Last Name From Jackson to Jacksun

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jermaine Jackson wants to change his name to something a little brighter. He's asking a court to allow him to alter his famous surname and become Jermaine Jacksun.

The older brother of Michael Jackson filed a name change petition on Tuesday in Los Angeles, stating the switch was for "artistic reasons."

The filing doesn't elaborate, but Jackson's friend Steve Dennis, who was speaking on the singer's behalf, said it's not unheard of for artists to change their names. "Phonetically, it changes nothing," he said.

"It is something he has chosen to do, and it's fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you've got to blame it on the sunshine," Dennis said, in a play on the Jackson 5 disco hit, "Blame it on the Boogie."

Jackson has been touring with his brothers in recent months and has been promoting his book about his superstar brother titled "You Are Not Alone."

A hearing on whether Jackson will become Jacksun is scheduled for Feb. 22 in Los Angeles.

mine is five letters, one syllable, and yet people find it so difficult to spell and/or pronounce.

lol same with mine. If you added one letter onto the end of my last name it would become a very common last name (my last name is not common at all), so people tend to think that someone left the last letter off or that I don't know how to spell my last name.

I had an English teacher in college who pulled me aside and asked me why I kept misspelling my name. smh

Haha, damn. Rude of the teacher tbh

I had a teacher in high school who called me by my first name (I go by my middle name, to add to things!) until the second to last day of the school year. She also pronounced it incorrectly, no matter how many times I corrected her. I think she just hated me. I also had a class in high school where people thought my name was Emily. It's not. Not even close. I guess I'm not memorable or something, haha.

Nope. And when people try to pronounce it, I get mek-na-ma-da. WHUT? Haven't you ever seen Nip/Tuck?
