Survivor Philippines - Episode 8

Survivor Philippines: Episode 8 - Dead Man Walking

Reward was split in to two teams of 5. Denise, Malcolm, Penner, Lisa, and Jeff won.

At the individual immunity challenge, Penner won a do-or-die immunity idol and saved his neck from the chopping block

Jeff Kent was voted out with 5 votes, 4 votes went to Pete, and Abi-Maria received 1 vote.

PENNER. WHY DID YOU VOTE FOR ABI?! I honestly had no idea who was going home. I guess Penner's vote could have been strategic to have him not vote Jeff off... I don't know.

Pete is growing on me. I like the way he's playing the game. Lisa is DEFINITELY playing the game now too. I'm still team Skupin/Malcolm/Denise but I would like to see Lisa make it far too. Anyone but Artis/Abi-Maria at this point.

Easily one of the top 5 best tribal councils of all time. I was completely speechless after tonight's vote.

Yeah, a friend of a friend was an intern on The Price is Right and they said they had warehouses full of stuff people couldn't pay taxes on to claim. Don't know how true it is but you always have to pay taxes.

Ugh, shows like PiR bug me because you can choose to take money instead but then it's only like, 50% of the value or something. Like, if I don't need X, and want the money, why can't I have the full value, and then you can just use the car again as a prize or whatever XD

I wonder if Survivor has that clause as well after the whole Hatch ordeal.
butterbuns 8th-Nov-2012 03:24 am (UTC)
Isn't their prize just money as it is though?

No it's taxed like the person said above that's why Richard Hatch got in so much trouble. I kind of always wondered though if he didn't know or didn't get proper legal representation. Personally I think it's bs that if you win something that you have to pay taxes on it but it is what is.

But that has nothing to do with what I said. It has nothing to do with the tax that causes them to only get half or whatever. The show basically says "Hey, you won this 40k car. You can either take the car, or 20k cash," and then you STILL have to pay taxes on that 20k. Survivor just has a cash prize, so there's no *option* to take a lower amount cash prize...

Well to be fair, wasnt that like the first reality show in America with a super big prize? I don't think it was common knowledge back then
syzygy09 8th-Nov-2012 03:27 am (UTC)
No. Price Is Right has that because their prizes aren't cash.

Survivor writes the winner a check for a million bucks and it's the winner's responsibility to pay whatever percentage of taxes they owe on that million.
