Ours are like that, too. (I'm in WI). After filling in my ballot, I had to wait in line to enter it into the scantron machine, and it was hard to hide who I voted for. Oh well.

I have to pay £9k for uni now, and I know so many people who have been shafted by the tories (either trying to get unemployment benefit and having to work for nothing, having disabilities and being thrown off despite REALLY now being able to work). They've affected the country a lot, even if you don't personally feel it.

It does matter even if it isn't a big race. Our politics is better, we don't have ridiculous fights and our candidates actually have to explain what they want to do. Party =/= good politics.
