Melissa McCarthy: "Sometimes I Wish I Were Just Magically a Size 6"

Melissa McCarthy would happily lose a few pounds -- if she only knew how.

In the November issue of Good Housekeeping (excerpted via The Daily Mail), the 42-year-old Mike & Molly star speaks candidly about her struggle to lose weight. "Sometimes I wish I were just magically a size 6 and I never had to give it a single thought. But I am weirdly healthy, so I don't beat myself up about it -- it wouldn't help, and I don’t want to pass that on to my girls." (McCarthy and her actor husband, Ben Falcone, are parents to daughters Vivian, 5, and Georgette, 2.)

Because she regularly plays tennis and does Pilates, McCarthy is dumbfounded as to why she hasn't slimmed down. "I don't really know why I'm not thinner than I am," the Bridesmaids actress says. "I don't really drink soda, I don't have a sweet tooth, and we eat healthfully at home."

McCarthy knows she's not the only woman who is unhappy with her body. "Pretty much everyone I know, no matter what size, is trying some system," she tells the magazine. "Even when someone gets to looking like she should be so proud of herself, instead she's like, 'I could be another three pounds less; I could be a little taller and have bigger lips.' Where does it end?"

According to McCarthy, she's learned to make peace with her body by focusing on the positive. "You just have to say, 'It's pretty damn good. I am right here at the moment and I'm OK with it. I've got other things to think about.'"

McCarthy's new movie, Identify Thief, also stars Jason Bateman and Amanda Peet. It hits theaters nationwide on Feb. 8, 2013.

That was what my doctor came to I was recently just diagnosed with PCOS... may I ask what medication they put you on? Because all my doctor did was put me on birth control and that didn't help at all...

My doctor did that for years...get a new doc bb!

I fully think PCOS is caused by insulin so make sure you get a good doc that will treat the actual cause. Birth Control just helps control the symptoms a little.

Sounds like a plan... I just need to find one now, I am currently out-of-state for college and not sure if a place will take my insurance...

Ah, hopefully they will.

Also, the amount of meds I take is ridicules. They helped me but at the same time I've developed more issues.

Be prepared to go to the endocrinologist every few months for a year until they are satisfied with your tests. Good luck!

I also have PCOS. I've had my insulin levels and pretty much everything related to that checked numerous times and they all came back fine. No one in my family has diabetes or anything like that either, so I still don't know what could have caused my PCOS :(

Insulin issues aren't always the problem. Every woman's body is different in regards to PCOS.

Sure :) I was put on Metformin! It's a medication for diabetics, to help with insulin resistance, but it's commonly used off label for PCOS because insulin resistance is one of the shitty things that some of us get to deal with. I read that a normal woman eats a piece of bread, 25% is stored as fat and the rest burned as energy. With insulin resistance, 75% is stored as fat.

My doctor gave me the options of birth control which basically would just control some of the hormones and make my cycles regular or Metformin which she said would help with weight loss, and with weight loss my cycles should regulate themselves. It was a no brainer to me.

Thank you! When I go talk to my lady doctor again... I am gonna bring that up with her!

I agree with that, that the Metformin was a no brainer
