'S.H.I.E.L.D.': January Filming Date And Coulson Update



"S.H.I.E.L.D." will begin filming January 2013, according to a website dedicated to TV auditions.

The listing for "S.H.I.E.L.D." has Joss Whedon listed as director -- he's been attached, but with the "schedule permitting" caveat -- and includes some very small plot teasers.

From Television Show Auditions:

Clark Gregg is playing Agent Phil Coulson, the same role he has played in "Iron Man I & II," "Thor," and "The Avengers". The series will center on his character. Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Ming-Na Wen has been cast as as Agent Melinda May, an ace pilot and weapons expert.

Whedon revealed Gregg's involvement at New York Comic-Con.

"We all love Clark Gregg, there's no doubt about that," Whedon told an audience via a taped message. "From before we made 'The Avengers,' we discussed whether there was a way for him to be a part of the Marvel Universe, perhaps a part of a TV show even after his death."

Ming-Na Wen's involvement was announced in late October.

Is this set after The Avengers? I can't get my head around how he's alive then if it is, and I'm probably in a minority who wishes he wasn't if that is the case. Not sure The Avengers would really be happy that they needed a push and were apparently lied to.

ia if they'll just magically resurrect him in the pilot episode (and I could've done without him on the show tbh) but maybe it'll be set before The Avengers.

Yeah maybe it will be a prequel of sorts.

I also wonder whether he's strong enough as a character to carry an entire show. lbr he worked best as a background type bringing light humour and dry quips, but idk about him as a protagonist.

Yeah I was okay with him showing up here and there to have a familiar face but I don't really want this show to be A Day in the Life of Phil Coulson~ He was a nice character but I wasn't even interested in the short movies with him, no way I can sit around watching him be the central character, trimmed to be some sort of human super agent just because of his stans. I mean, he doesn't even have a real fleshed out character at this point. I'll be happy to be proven wrong.

Well it's Joss Whedon. He's been known to resurrect characters that have died. But I don't think it really makes sense in this situation.

Ming Na being involved with S.H.I.E.L.D? Fuck yeah... fuck yeah, fuck yeah... always here for more Coulson though.

Also they probably are going to do time jumps in the show, connecting to the Films in way like the end scene or Coulson's shorts were. Since it is being aired on ABC/Disney... they can actually use clips from the films and stuff.

I thought the "You have reached the Life-Model Decoy of Tony Stark" bit was a Chekov's Gun, to the point that I was honestly surprised that Coulson didn't pop up in the after-credits bit.
