Nikki Reed gives beauty secrets to Glamour UK

Photobucket

#1. If I was having a pampering night in, I’d put my ridiculous white headband on that lifts all my hair out of my face. Then, first thing’s first, I shave my legs. That’s a special occasion, I’m not the kind of girl that shaves every morning in the shower – I have a special designated bath time, a date with my razor!

#2. My mom’s a hairstylist and she’s always told me ‘don’t over-wash your hair – the less you wash it the better’ so I wash my hair maybe once or twice a week, so I use a lot of dry shampoo.

#3. With skin, I use the Clarisonic (£120) – I do a good scrub first. Then I do a super-hydrating mask, and let that sit for 10 minutes. I also love to put towels in the microwave (am I going to get in trouble for saying that?) for 30 seconds and then I lie with them on my face.

#4. Because of the make-up I have to wear all the time, it feels like when I wash my face I never get the make-up out of my skin, so when I’m alone and I don’t have to work, it’s my favourite thing to get every ounce of it off.

#5. To finish, I load on a lot of oils. I literally use olive oil on my face. I take olive oil from my kitchen and put it on my face. I promise you can do that.

#6. Also, I saw I have some wrinkles coming. I’m going to be 25 soon, I’m like, ‘what’s going on, so this is happening now?’ so I’ve started putting a little eye cream on too.

#7. I never wear perfume. My mom never wore it when I was growing up; she only wore oils, like patchouli oil or gardenia oil, so I’ve always used oils too.

#8. I’m really simple when it comes to make-up. I like to look like I’m not wearing any make-up. I don’t like it when girls do a full face when they’re going out to lunch.

#9. I really just use concealer. I really think it’s important to let young girls know that they do not have to wear a full face of foundation. I love bareMinerals, I love their brushes too.

#10. I do a lot of oils, argon oil, and then a little concealer around my eyes, nose and chin. The thing I focus on the most is my eyebrows. I’ve never let anyone pluck or wax my eyebrows except myself.

#11. A strong natural brow is important I think. I use a little clear eyebrow gel. I use a little bit of Shiseido Cream Eye Colour in Brown (£20.50) for the top of my lid, a little mascara and then I call it a day.

#12. I don’t like sparkles, even though that’s the trend; I haven’t gotten into it yet. I also use Clinique Men’s Tanning Cream (£16.50) for my blush because it stays on all day.

#13. I don’t like sparkles, even though that’s the trend; I haven’t gotten into it yet. I also use Clinique Men’s Tanning Cream (£16.50) for my blush because it stays on all day.

What was your favourite scene to film in Breaking Dawn - Part 2?
Nikki: I loved filming scenes with Renesmee.

Did you keep any props from filming over the years?
Nikki: I wanted my baseball shoes but was too shy to ask. Kristen asked for them and surprised me.

What are you going to dress up as this Halloween?
Nikki: Paul wants to be Kermit & Miss Piggy - we'll be on a plane!

What have you learned from your character in this saga?
Nikki: Rosalie's confidence & ability to stay true to herself.

What’s your funniest memory from the saga?
Nikki: Catherine Hardwicke made us do cat classes to get in character for the first film. She thought being a cat was similar to being a vampire.

Can you give us details about the "dance-off" at the end?
Nikki: No, because it's the only thing that isn't known and is not in the book.

What's it like to work with Mackenzie?
Nikki: She's the most professional, adorable little lady. Her parents are great. We became very close. She emails me still weekly!

If you were to give your character a piece of advice, what would it be?
Kellan: Never go against your woman's stand.
Nikki: To be patient and not affected by the little things.

Would you work on some other project linked to the saga or this is the end?
Nikki: I can't see us turning it down.

How was doing a song for Breaking Dawn 2?
Nikki: Writing the song for the movie was my way of trying to give back to the fans. It inspired me.

Coolest fan gifts you've received?
Nikki: When the fans are creative - bracelets & necklaces they've made.

If you guys could play another character in the saga, who would it be?
Nikki: I used to enjoy playing the outcast but maybe someone more likeable.

What would you miss most from the saga?
Nikki: Interacting with the fans. I know the cast will still hang out.

What’s the unique thing you brought to your character?
Nikki: I loved the character Stephanie created. I tried to show a vulnerable side.

Which book did you like most?
Nikki: New Moon - I wanted Edward to come back.

Who inspires you?
Nikki: Nia Vardalos, Rita Wilson. Women who set an example for other women beyond this industry. Also my mum.

What is one thing you will always remember about Twilight?
Nikki: How grateful I am for the fans and the experience.

Post your daily skincare routine, if you have one!

I'd appreciate specificity about which products and methods you use. :)
redaodai Re: Your Skincare Routine30th-Oct-2012 11:57 pm (UTC)
Morning: Shave, wash face with Clearly Natural Vitamin E bar, apply Eucerin Daily Protection SPF with Alpha Hydrox Enhanced Lotion.

Afternoon: Cleanse face with Dickinson's Witch Hazel. Reapply Alpha Hydrox Enhanced Lotion.

Night: Witch hazel, Clearly Natural Vitamin E bar and Alpha Hydrox Enhanced Lotion.

My skin is pretty smooth and clear now.
hello_samm Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 01:32 am (UTC)
My boyfriend introduced me to witch hazel. It's amazing for cleaning your face.
dumbledummy Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 03:44 am (UTC)
how do you use witch hazel? Wash, then WH, or WH then wash?
sadisticsidhe Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:00 am (UTC)
I'm lucky to have fairly good skin (and I'm over the worst of acne. Only really get it at shark week but I take precautions.)

Morning:

Say Yes to Tomatoes Daily Acne scrub
Aveeno positively radiant daily moisturizer.
Shiseido Ultimate Sun protection lotion SPF 60

Night:
Neutrogena' Oil Free Acne Wash-Redness Smoothing cream cleanser with Clarisonic
Aveeno positively radiant daily moisturizer.

I had an Olay night cream but it felt greasy and I thought it was the culprit in causing a breakout.

I'll take suggestions for night creams!
it_llbeyourname Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:03 am (UTC)
bioderma crealine and that's it!
emerald_soul Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:04 am (UTC)
Korres Milk Proteins Foaming Cream Cleanser, Mario Badescu Cucumber Cleansing Lotion for toner, Korres Pomegranate Balancing Cream-Gel Moisturizer in the morning and Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial at night.

I also use Dr. Brandt Dark Spots No More serum for acne scars.
ponpiri Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:08 am (UTC)
I use all Sunday Riley products.

Morning: Cleanse face with Ceramic Slip. I massage it into my face for at least a minute and a half, then wash. Apply half a pump of the Juno dry oil moisturizer in circular motions. Apply the acnedote spot treatment gel from Alba Botanica on pimples and go.

Night: Cleanse again with Ceramic Slip. Apply Good Genes and spot treat with the AB gel.

I'm looking for a good mask that won't screw with my skin. Picked up the Vegecol mask from Aubrey Organics so I'll see how that goes.
deadonarival_9 Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:09 am (UTC)

e133 Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:10 am (UTC)
Morning:
Avene Gentle Milk Cleanser
Oilatum natural repair moisturiser

Evening:
Lancome Baume Eclat Cleanser
Avene Gentle Toner
Oilatum natural repair moisturiser

gigglyvapidslut Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:12 am (UTC)
morning: cleanse with bioderma crealine and avene thermal water, estee lauder night repair serum + argan oil + moisturizer of choice (clinique superdefense or avene's hydrance optimale).

evening: clinique take the day off cleansing balm - bioderma crealine - avene thermal water to balance the ph - avene's triacneal as night cream (buffered half an hour later with argan oil or l'occitane's angelica moisturizer)

i also exfoliate few times a week (peter thomas roth pads or a microfiber cloth) and apply facial masks (avene's soothing hydrating one which i'm quitting because it's slightly comedogenic, and the far superior nuxe masque hydratant frais)

Edited at 2012-10-31 12:16 am (UTC)
emeyea Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:12 am (UTC)
1 squirt of neutrogena all in one acne control
1 squirt of L'Oreal Youth Code Foaming Gel Cleanser
Combine that, scrub it in for at least 90 seconds, rinse

Neutrogena rapid clear toner 2x a day

Neutrogena rapid clear acne eliminating spot gel 2x a day

If I leave the house, Maybelline Dream Fresh BB cream (not a true bb cream, but it's a great tinted moisturizer imo)

If I stay in, Pond's Clarant B3 Anti-Dark Spots cream (it's helping with my acne, crazy)

At night, Olay Night Regenerating Serum

Every other day: St Ives apricot scrub for breakouts
honey_fuggle Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:13 am (UTC)
morning/night: cetaphil cleansing bar + hope in a jar moisturizer.

once a week i use sugar face polish mask from sephora ($55/jar but it's definitely worth it.)
thatimayloveyou Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:16 am (UTC)
I'm actually not a big fan of face wash, so most of the time, i use only water in the morning (if i do use one, i use kiehl's gentle foaming face wash), and then clinique's Superdefense spf25 for dry to very dry skin.
at night, i take off my make up with water and either lush's ultrabland or almond oil. then i apply clinique's Super Rescue Antioxidant Night Moisturizer.

i recently heard that clinique moisturisers are actually really harsh on the skin. they never made me break out and i've used them for two years, but now i'm thinking of switching. any recommendations? is it worth shellin out on something like kiehl's? i'm lucky that i have really clear skin, but it's on the dry and sensitive side.

oh, and for your body, i really recommend just using coconut oil, it smells amazing and hydrates so much better than any lotion i've ever used,
starrika Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:19 am (UTC)
Morning: Mario Badescu glycolic foaming cleanser (with my Mia), MB glycolic toner, MB Vitamin E moisturizer

Night: MB glycolic foaming cleanser (with Mia), MB glycolic toner, MB protein night cream

I sound like I'm a spokesperson, haha. Their products saved my face though. I've been going to a medical spa and was using SkinMedica and it broke me out badly in cystic acne. Before that, I dabbled with a lot of Clarins and Biologique Recherche, which are both great lines.
khlassique Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:20 am (UTC)
A.M.: Warm water with a drop of tea tree oil on a cotton ball as a toner, Neutrogena Dry Touch 70+ Sunblock

P.M.: Some sort of acne face wash with salicylic acid in it (I switch around), Clarisonic every other day, Bioelements quick refiner after I dry my face, argan oil a little bit before getting into bed

my face still breaks out pretty randomly (mostly just red spots) but that's more hormonal stuff than anything else and skimping on my water intake. my clear skin feels like a baby's bottom.

mercibeaucul Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:26 am (UTC)
Morning: Nothing unless I was wearing makeup the previous day and failed to remove it that night.

Evening: Cleanse with Nubian Heritage Black Soap. Moisturise with Avene Cicalfate.

Dassit.

My skin is lovely now. I used to use all sorts of fancy products as a teenager and my skin was lacklustre and mildly pimply at best.
___hippriest Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:27 am (UTC)
Morning: I don't wash my face in the morning and it has been my best skincare decision ever. If I feel a little oily (mainly in the summer) I'll use my Derma-E Papaya Soy Milk toner. Regardless of whether I use toner or not, I apply Ren Pure ClearCalm 3 night serum (its cheaper than the day serum) and Trader Joe's Enrich moisturizer. Then I apply Nip Fab eye cream.

Night: I remove my make with Jojoba oil. I put some in my hand and message it into my face. Then I wipe off my make using cotton pad. Then I use Burts Bees Sensitive Cleanser with my Mia. I followed that up with Origins Mega Mushroom serum and night cream. Once a week I use Origins Modern Friction, followed by Aztec Secret clay mask with apple cider vinegar.
__papillon Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:29 am (UTC)
morning:
wash face with cleanser (my favorite is korres milk proteins but now that i ran out and it isn't available in my country, rn i'm using malin+goetz grapefruit cleanser)
spray caudalie beauty elixer (i'm running out! my mom bought me a replacement from the us, along with the korres but now she can't find it smh)
moisturizer (korres pomegranate cream-gel, but i also like caudalie sorbet cream)
bb cream, followed by makeup etc.

night:
wipe off everything with ponds (tho i just ordered a teeny tiny sized bioderma, can't wait to try it)
wash off with morning cleanser
wonder pore from etude house (i might stop using that, now that i have the bioderma)
kiehl's midnight recovery eye treatment for the undereyes.
for spots, i like kiehl's blue herbal spot treatment but i can't find it rn and i'm running out so i switched to their other spot treatment
korres sleeping facial (making sure to leave the spot treatment product alone.

i might def need to change some things, i get annoying spots sometimes.
aqueous_drama Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:32 am (UTC)
I use the Equate Pro-Activ knockoff most mornings and nights. It works just as well as the name brand stuff, and my skin is so happy with it! To remove makeup, I like the Burt's Bees cloths - they smell amazing and make my face so soft.
itsontd_bitch Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 12:51 am (UTC)
God, look at all the shit women do for beauty. Its amazing, jfc.
pooq45 Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 01:22 am (UTC)
I don't wash my face in the morning because I have really dry skin. Sometimes if I get oily on my T zone I'll use a Yes to Cucumbers wipe and a tiny bit of toner (Clinique most of the time)

Night: Purity made simply to cleanse with my Clarisonic (some days if I didn't wear any makeup I'll just use the Yes to Cucumbers makeup removing wipe just to get rid of excess dirt. I've recently been using these Up and Up Target brand Apricot exfoliating wipes which are amazing because I have super sensitive skin and even the most sensitive scrubs irritate my skin. After that I use a toner/mist which I've been switching up lately shopping for a new one. I used to use Boscia's Clear Complexion Tonic but I have a H20 Plus Marine Calm Balancing Toner that I just got. After that I use First Aid Beauty's Anti-Redness Serum for Rosacea and Cliniques Dramatically Moisturizer (the yellow one) and my eye cream which right now is Organix's Ever Radiant Coconut Milk Anti-Puff eye cream. Which I probably won't repurchase. Then I'll use Rimmel's lash growth serum on my lashes and eyebrows (they're scarce) and a thick lip balm!

Any suggestions for an eye cream that will help reduce dark circles and fill in fine lines (not so much anti-aging but when I use concealer under my eyes it always sits in the lines ugh) and isn't ridiculously expensive?
faithlessjuliet Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 01:43 am (UTC)
Morning: I use burt's bees toner, wild ferns eye gel, clinique moisturizer, and burt's bees spot treatment if I have a pimple. I also wear sunscreen every day.

Night: I wash my face with burt's bees radiance(and I exfoliate 3x a week with Lush's herbalism). I use toner again, wild ferns night eye cream and face cream.

It's a lot but it's totally worth it. :)
justyourfaceha Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 02:03 am (UTC)
I just have to say that Kiehl's products are amazing. I use their Rosa Arctica cream (since I have dry skin) and their Midnight Recovery every night and my skin looks SO much better now then it ever has. I've tried some of their other products as well and they're all fantastic.

Besides that I do nothing special, just proactiv since I have acne prone skin.
hotfuzz85 Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 07:15 am (UTC)
I try to stay clear of serums and whatnot. I find SPF is key to warding off to wrinkles and stuff.

Morning: Maria Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel (got it as a sample so trying it out), apply Renew Australia Rosehip Oil on eyes and Anti-Oxidant Moisturising Cream on the rest of my face, Shiseido Anessa SPF 50 PA+++ (Getting rid of the Anessa suncscreen cos I just found out it is chemical, great as a makeup base/primer)

Evening/Night: Take off makeup with Shiseido Cleansing oil, cleanse with Konjac Sponge, Apply Renew Australia Rosehip oil and Renew Australia Anti-Oxidant Moisturising Cream again.
koboldmaki Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 01:06 pm (UTC)
Mornings: water and argan oil
Evenings: water, micellar lotion (currently Bioderma), argan oil

Occasionally a chemical peel (so something without scrubbing).

I used to use Vichy spot treatment which worked like a charm, but I kind of don't need to anymore.

I should really start using sun protection again, but I haven't really found one that works with my skin.

If I have to or want to wear make-up, I use almond oil to dissolve it and wash it off with a cloth before the Bioderma.
jazzypom Re: Your Skincare Routine31st-Oct-2012 05:06 pm (UTC)
Morning: Wash face with Lush's Angels on Bare Skin, use any sunblock that doesn't turn my skin blue (default SPF:15).

Afternoon: Tend to keep the oil at bay with shin powder.

Evening: Wash face with gentle cleanser. Either Aubrey Organics (love it) Weleda, or Ultrabland by LUSH. Tea tree toner by LUSH. Keihl's midnight intensive oil (the one in the blue bottle), LUSH celestial then bed.

Try to change my pillowcases twice a week to keep troublesome skin at bay, too.
trixielollipop 30th-Oct-2012 11:54 pm (UTC)
#5. To finish, I load on a lot of oils. I literally use olive oil on my face. I take olive oil from my kitchen and put it on my face. I promise you can do that.

I put regular white sugar in olive oil and use it as a skin scrub. If I feel sassy I add essential oil to it for scented. Great on my face and my skin is ah-mazing for the next few days. Plus, if you get it in your mouth or eyes it doesn't taste like chemicals or burn.
thwick 31st-Oct-2012 12:16 am (UTC)
I'd like to try this, but worry it'll break me out. Despite having dry skin, I get spots easily...

What skin type do you have?
trixielollipop 31st-Oct-2012 12:20 am (UTC)
Pretty average. It's hard to say because I take really strict care of it, moisturizing, etc. I get dry spots in the winter: shins, hands, face, etc.

I am sensitive to Vitamin E lotions and creams though, but this doesn't bother me at all.
koboldmaki 31st-Oct-2012 01:08 pm (UTC)
I use salt and almond oil sometimes (like twice a year) and it works great but I always feel like I'm preparing myself to be a sunday roast.
sadisticsidhe 30th-Oct-2012 11:56 pm (UTC)
Speaking of wrinkles and eye creams.

Any recommendations ONTD?

I'm only 25 but I want to be preventative about this shit. I already wear sunscreen everyday but any other ideas woud be helpful. Stuff on the cheapish end would be better.

Also tips on getting rid of hangnails would be lovely!

die_muia 31st-Oct-2012 12:24 am (UTC)
i think a lot of aging and wrinkles are genetic. take a look at your mom or other women in your family and that will give you a good idea of what your skin will do untreated. some people swear just by spf and water. i think retinol products are absolutely necessary (for me at least). some people have slower cell turnover which leads to wrinkles and/or dull skin (also possibly acne). you can get a lot of cheaper retinol products otc (roc, olay, etc.) which aren't prescription strength but still decent. i use retin a micro solely for anti-aging (though that's not what i told my doc to get my prescription - i'm a university student so i get it cheap w/ insurance). i've been on it for a year now and i have better skin than i've ever had since puberty hit me like a ton of bricks. if you're not using some form of vitamin a (retinol/retinoids/etc.), then you should probably do something in form of regular exfoliation (i.e. clarisonic) to encourage cell turnover. hope that helps!

oh and stay away from cigarettes and excessive alcohol - that shit will age your skin like no other - it ain't pretty

tribulation 31st-Oct-2012 12:32 am (UTC)
I use Derma-e's Hyaluronic acid eye cream. The ingredients list is solid, better than many of the fancier alternatives I checked out.

Ingredients: Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Organic Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Xanthan Gum, Allantoin, Panthenol, Ascorbyl Palmitate (C-Ester), Pinus Pinaster (Pycnogenol®) Bark Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

You can find it at Whole Foods and other organic markets but the cheapest place to get it is definitely vitacost. The link below will give you $10 off anything in the store. I only payed about $8 and most of that was shipping (which is really cheap). I'm not trying to ~advertize~, I'm just letting y'all know... it's a good deal and vitacost has so many awesome products at fair prices even without the coupon.

https://www.vitacostrewards.com/E48wtM3

As for face cream, right now I'm alternating between The Balm's Iris Night Cream I picked up from Marshall's (part of $15 kit) and Alpha Hydroxy lotion I picked up from Ulta ($12). Keep in mind the AHA lotion can sting like hell, especially the first time you use it. But it makes my face feel really smooth.
teawithnoddy 31st-Oct-2012 12:49 am (UTC)
I use the Clarins Eye Contour Balm (it is $35 though) as a preventative eye cream, and I really like it. It reduces any puffiness really well, and absorbs very quickly, which I like because I hate feeling like there's cream sitting on my face. I've also tried the Benefit It's Potent, or whatever it's called, because I had a sample pot, and I didn't hate it, but I think it gave me a few under eye milia.
lovelyeli 30th-Oct-2012 11:57 pm (UTC)
beauty secret?

water&sunscreen, BAM that's all u need.
jammyjam 30th-Oct-2012 11:59 pm (UTC)
i'm gonna start stanning for her since someone in the last twilight post said nikki was wearing rupert sanderson shoes. the subtle shade is glorious.
maryhurt 30th-Oct-2012 11:59 pm (UTC)
so does bb cream serves as moisturizer as well? and do they usually have some sort of spf?
tingyin 31st-Oct-2012 12:04 am (UTC)
I think they do (moisturizer and spf), but I read somewhere recently that US BB creams are just glorified tinted moisturizers and nowhere near the magic of true BB creams available in Asia.
tribulation 31st-Oct-2012 12:11 am (UTC)
I wish bb cream came in darker (like, for black women) shades or at least the western bb creams would step up their game. I really like the premise.
starrika 31st-Oct-2012 12:28 am (UTC)
I think smashbox comes in a semi-dark shade that may work for lighter skinned women of color, although this is coming from my memory of walking by the display at sephora three weeks ago, so it may not be as dark in the tube as the color card.
__papillon 31st-Oct-2012 12:30 am (UTC)
i heard bobbi brown does a good one.

honestly, korean cosmetic brands are benefitting from the ~hallyu wave~ so they should expand their shade selections imo.
leopard_legs 31st-Oct-2012 05:48 pm (UTC)
sleek make up do bb creams for black/hispanic women
if you're in the US the delivery can be a little hefty but sleek make up is pretty fantastic
trampledmoans 31st-Oct-2012 12:25 am (UTC)
I always use a little moisturizer underneath my bb cream so it looks better. Make sure to let your reg. moisturizer soak in all the way so it doesn't mess with the spf in bb cream.

But no, it's too thin to be a moisturizer.
symphonic_blood 31st-Oct-2012 02:40 am (UTC)
No. I've been using SKIN79 and it doesn't moisturize. I have to add moisturizer before applying BB cream. I heard that Dr. Jart is really good.
shinebrighter 31st-Oct-2012 12:00 am (UTC)
i feel like my face is going to break out just reading about all the oil she puts on her face. i could never do that.
gigglyvapidslut 31st-Oct-2012 12:06 am (UTC)
only certain oils are comedogenic, in my case they really helped with acne and paradoxically enough reduced the oiliness
i used (currently using argan) almond/rosehip/argan/sunflower/sesame/avocado and none of it broke me out
olive oil did cause a few zits, i must say, so i steer clear
e133 31st-Oct-2012 12:11 am (UTC)
it sounds excessive but if you were dry enough it'd be an option; my skin is thirsty as fuck
symphonic_blood 31st-Oct-2012 02:42 am (UTC)
Argan is really good. I have oily skin and it doesn't make me break out.
sixteenways 31st-Oct-2012 11:30 am (UTC)
Oil is actually beneficial for the skin. Jojoba and coconut oil are great!
sadisticsidhe 31st-Oct-2012 12:01 am (UTC)
Also my 7 OPI Skyfall collection nailpolishes (that i got for 25!) came yesterday. Rockin' The World is Not Enough rn.
tine_marie 31st-Oct-2012 12:16 am (UTC)
Wow how did you get them for 25, bb? And what shades? I am currently wearing Moonraker but I also bought Goldeneye.
sadisticsidhe 31st-Oct-2012 12:19 am (UTC)
Amazon was selling them below retail value + I had a $25 gift certificate. Even without the gift certificate I would have saved like 7 bucks by buying them there (more if S&H wasn't as high)

I have:

Goldeneye
On Her Majesty's Secret Sevice
Live and Let Die
Tomorrow Never Dies
Skyfall
Casino Royale
The World is Not Enough
nonparaille 31st-Oct-2012 12:21 am (UTC)
Um, jealous! Where did you buy them from, if you don't mind my asking?
it_llbeyourname 31st-Oct-2012 12:02 am (UTC)
i bought a clarisonic but i started noticing that i was breaking out like crazy like two days after i bought it. that fucker was so expensive that i didn't want to admit that it was happening but it was starting to look so bad that i just had to stop :/
did this happen to anyone else? idk why all famous people seem to swear by it, maybe they're all getting paid

I use it and like it, but it is definitely not for everyone. It might have been too harsh for your skin, I know other people have had issues with it.
emerald_soul 31st-Oct-2012 12:06 am (UTC)
I didn't break out, but my make up remover wipes did a just fine job of getting make up off, so I returned mine.
love_allure 31st-Oct-2012 12:07 am (UTC)
your skin is purging that's why you're breaking out. that also happened to me the first month but i kept using it. it happens to a lot of people starting it actually. you should try using it only once a week if you have sensitive skin such as myself. my new skin honestly convinced all my friends to buy the mia. hehehe
it_llbeyourname 31st-Oct-2012 12:12 am (UTC)
oh really?? i did actually see stuff people had written about purging but i didn't believe it, i don't really see why it should make you purge if it's good for your skin. like i just thought if it was good for you then it would never break you out, simple as that. and then i got paranoid that it was just spreading bacteria around my face and driving it into my pores. but if it happened to you maybe i'll persevere. how often do you use it?
blrocks 31st-Oct-2012 12:07 am (UTC)
Did you use it with that cleanser stuff it comes with, or your own cleanser? I'm curious because I want to invest in one but I have sensitive skin so I'm nervous.
lelu 31st-Oct-2012 12:08 am (UTC)
I've been using my Clarisonic (which I LOVE) since April. For the first week or so, I did break out a bit, and I've read that other people had the same issue. I think it's because the brush is getting all the dirt and oil out of your pores, so it's natural that your skin will have some issues. But if you stick with it, you won't regret it. Almost 7 months later, I still stare at my skin in the mirror in disbelief--it's done great things for me, and I hope it will for you, too!
sadisticsidhe 31st-Oct-2012 12:09 am (UTC)
A fair number of people break out badly right after they started to use it. I know I did. However it clears up and my skin looks amazing.

Do you what you gotta do bb, but for most people it does get better so I would recommend you stick with it for a couple of weeks but no one knows your skin like you.
lookitslisa 31st-Oct-2012 12:10 am (UTC)
i didn't break out but i don't feel like it raelly makes a difference?
___hippriest 31st-Oct-2012 12:11 am (UTC)
Your skin could be purging. It happened to my skin and took a few weeks for it to stop. Since then my skin has looked fantastic. Apparently for some people the Clarisonic cleans so much deeper than their skin is used to that all of the dirt that used to be deep in their pores is coming the the surface, which causes breakouts.
They have a really good return policy, up to 90 days if I remember correctly. So that should give you enough time to determine whether you want to keep it.
tingyin 31st-Oct-2012 12:11 am (UTC)
first off I'm sorry you'll see this in your inbox and think i agree with you about the clarisonic--i don't have one.

BUT i did buy some dr. hauschka skincare and using it made me break out and develop combination skin but it was so expensive i kept trying.

i thought my skin might need an adjustment period because it's a different method of cleansing but it's not that. maybe you need an adjustment period? you could use a really, really gentle cleanser like cetaphil, then gradually go back to your usual cleanser.
jeveuxmacaron 31st-Oct-2012 12:14 am (UTC)
people talk about purging but honestly i don't recommend you keep using it if it is causing problems. what most people think is purging is usually just your skin reacting to the constant irritation of being scrubbed with the brush. some people stop having breakouts probably because their skin acclimatised to it, but some people don't. i don't know if it is worth keeping up with it, especially if your breakouts are the type to leave pigmentation when they are gone.
kubaba 31st-Oct-2012 12:20 am (UTC)
how long did you use it for? maybe it was getting rid of like too much oil so your skin was over compensating my producing more oil and therefore breaking out. You could try using something gentler on it? Trying to help cause it sucks that didn't work out since they are super expensive. I've got one I don't think its amazing though but I do feel like it gives a good clean and when I havent used it in a while sometimes I break out :/
trampledmoans 31st-Oct-2012 12:28 am (UTC)
I usually have clear skin but I bought the clairsonic to even out my skin and make it more fresh and youthful looking (lol, I'm 19). But I broke out after using it (after a lifetime without pimples or acne, mind you) but after a few weeks or so, it did clear up. I suppose that was the purging phase but now my skin looks AMAZING.
burn_a_miracle 31st-Oct-2012 12:44 am (UTC)
Its supposed to do that the first few days. All the oil and dirt in your skin is coming to the surface, its suppose to happen when you get a facial as well. Continue to use it and if the breakout lasts longer than a week, tops, stop.

/went to beauty school
colormebadd 31st-Oct-2012 12:53 am (UTC)
it never happened to me but i only use it twice a week with a sensitive brush. it makes my skin look a lot better. maybe you chose the wrong brush head for your skin or used it too harshly
sozzney 31st-Oct-2012 01:02 am (UTC)
I've used my clarisonic nearly everyday for like 2 years and I love it. Granted, my skin really doesn't have any problems except for the occasional zit. I use it with Philosophy's Purity and The microdelivery exfoliating wash and I love how clean my skin feels all the time. It's the only way I really feel like my skin is clean after wearing makeup.
lo_anxiety 31st-Oct-2012 01:25 am (UTC)
I've had a Clarisonic Mia since May. I use it twice a day, keep it in my shower, I just repurchased a new scrub head for it. I use the normal head. Umm, I use my own facial cleanser, & I absolutely love the Clarisonic. I'm 28, & I do feel like it has helped my skin look more glowy & less aged. I have sensitive skin too. I'd say that it works, but ya know I saw this YT video of a girl using an electronic toothbrush as a dupe for the Clarisonic. I know they are super pricey.
fuckmyass 31st-Oct-2012 02:56 am (UTC)
I use the Olay brush ($~25 and the same thing) and I had purging issues at first too and I never break out.
captchasucks 25th-Dec-2012 04:53 am (UTC)
this comment is so late but this happened to my skin too (for about 5 days) and after that, my skin stopped breaking out and i began to see a huge improvement.
ponpiri 31st-Oct-2012 12:04 am (UTC)
I love how simple her regimen is. My skin is super super sensitive so I have to be careful about what I put on it. Origins and Natura Bisse jacked my skin up; Sunday Riley fixed most of it up in about 2 weeks. All I have left are some dark spots on my cheeks. Can't wait to get skin adrenaline next.

This is an amazing and cheap spot treatment. Gonna try the Happy Me overnight pimple eliminator next.

AMEN TO THE SUNDAY RILEY LOVE. Ah-may-zing line.
ponpiri 31st-Oct-2012 12:40 am (UTC)
I feel like trying a cheaper regimen (like black soap and moisturizer) but then I think about what happens w/my skin when I screw with it and back out lol
sevenbeat 31st-Oct-2012 12:55 am (UTC)
definitely trying sunday riley. I tried REN after a recommendation from somewhere here but I want to switch it up so I am definitely going to be purchasing

Can anybody rec a good shine control primer/lotion, whatever? Out of everything I've tried, milk of magnesia is the only thing that works but I don't really like it. It leaves white flakes on my face no matter how little I use.
e133 31st-Oct-2012 12:14 am (UTC)
i think laura mercier does a good primer for oily skin
also kiehl's rare earth pore refining tonic is supposed to be incredible

tribulation 31st-Oct-2012 12:39 am (UTC)
Yeah, I tried a sample of the LM primer from Sephora a few weeks ago since I've heard good things about it. My nose was shiny in no time. :/

I'll keep an eye out for the Kiehl's, thanks!
trampledmoans 31st-Oct-2012 12:29 am (UTC)
I can't remember what it's called but there's the monistat chafing gel or creme that I've heard people use as a primer.
aqueous_drama 31st-Oct-2012 12:37 am (UTC)
I have really oily skin, and I use the NYC kind. It's cheap as hell but it does the job. Aloe vera gel also works great.
fuckmyass 31st-Oct-2012 02:57 am (UTC)
Sephora has an anti-shine primer that I use, then finish it off with ELF HD powder (after BE foundation) and no shine issues really. I have combo skin
lomhm 31st-Oct-2012 06:31 am (UTC)
primer: oil free laura mercier
moisturizer: philosophy hope in a bottle, it has a mattefying finish so its great for oily skin
lookitslisa Argan oil31st-Oct-2012 12:09 am (UTC)
i've been using argan oil on my eyes as an eye cream and am not seeing any difference...

anyone care to share their stories with argan oil?
tingyin Re: Argan oil31st-Oct-2012 12:17 am (UTC)
i bought the josie maran travel-size starter kit from sephora (cleansing oil + moisturizer w/spf) and while neither is the pure argan oil, my skin's really taken to the cleansing oil. it does a great job of cleansing and leaving my (usually normal) skin soft, smooth, and balanced.

i haven't been using the moisturizer much bc i've got another moisturizer i need to finish first.i'm really looking forward to getting pure argan oil for every day use.

oh god i just realized this is barely helpful. if you want better eye cream, my friend loves the Clinique one in the little pink tub!
gigglyvapidslut Re: Argan oil31st-Oct-2012 12:21 am (UTC)
shea butter might be a better, richer option?

my skin likes argan oil, doesn't break me out and it's quite nourishing
colormebadd Re: Argan oil31st-Oct-2012 12:56 am (UTC)
maracuja oil is much better for around your eyes especially if you have sensitive skin
dnttllhrry Re: Argan oil31st-Oct-2012 02:59 am (UTC)
idk about you, ive been using it for about a year an a half, just a tiny less than dime size twice a day is all i need. Its my saviour during the winter.
koboldmaki Re: Argan oil31st-Oct-2012 01:12 pm (UTC)
I use argan oil on my whole face and it works great as a moisturizer and to control oilyness, and it evens out the dry lines I get on my forehead, so I love it. I don't use it for eyes specifically though.
blrocks 31st-Oct-2012 12:09 am (UTC)
I think she's gorgeous tbh. She doesn't have a delicate face or whatever that ONTD covets, but she looks amazing IMO.
ponpiri 31st-Oct-2012 12:10 am (UTC)
She's very beautiful without trying at all.
honey_fuggle 31st-Oct-2012 12:17 am (UTC)
yeah she's gorgeous.
itsontd_bitch 31st-Oct-2012 12:49 am (UTC)
Delicate face...? Like who?
blrocks 31st-Oct-2012 01:51 am (UTC)
Everyone use to say 'oh she has a hard face', wtf.
sowhat_whocares 31st-Oct-2012 01:06 am (UTC)
shes very pretty. her legs are fuckin' killer too.
stoodon_theedge 31st-Oct-2012 01:48 am (UTC)
Me too. She's so naturally gorgeous imo.
tobiveil12 31st-Oct-2012 02:40 am (UTC)
Yes, her face is striking in the most gorgeous ways. I think she is a young cindy Crawford/gia Carangi. I just wish she would not let her skin gets so tanned out by the sun, it harshes her features and is main cause for her skin being so dry.
hndshksatsunrse 31st-Oct-2012 12:10 am (UTC)
I hate her hair like that!!!!!!!
joe_pwnz_pete 31st-Oct-2012 12:10 am (UTC)
something about her is just off to me idk what it is
