This train doesn't stop here; in fact, it goes on for at least another 10 stops. That's right, AMC's westward expansion drama surrounding the building of the Union Pacific Railroad, Hell On Wheels has been picked up for a third season, Hollywood.com has confirmed with the network.

The western epic has faced several challenges in the ratings, which were down slightly from the first season, but overall remained quite strong given the challenges. Hell On Wheels wrapped up its second season on October 7, with an average of 2.4 million viewers—a solid ratings average for the series overall.
And while that was down from the average of 3 million viewers during the first season, this time the show did not have hugely-popular The Walking Dead as a lead-in, and was doubly impacted by the fact that Dish Network customers still lack AMC programming due to the dispute between the two companies.
The show's second season primarily followed Anson Mount, Common and Colm Meaney as they push the boundaries of the great frontier, and has received positive reviews and accolades for its stunning visual accomplishments—true to the AMC way of doing television—to say nothing of how truly badass its three leading men are on the acting front.

Hell on Wheels should return mid-2013.

It really bugged me because Bohannon had already lost his wife tragically and was gruff and just surviving. And then the show gave a him a little bit of range to explore, as well as letting Lily get to be bad ass away from Durant, and then they throw it all the way for a dumbass reset. Just fuck off, show.
If she is indeed gone, I'll still watch the show but I hope they don't bring in another woman for Cullen because at this point, all the women he gets involved with seem to die/get hurt.

For a more elaborate description, listen to the lyrics of "Trouble" by P!nk/watch the video.
Killing a major player might work when you have a big ensemble cast such as Game of Thrones, but not here. Lily drew a female audience who might not stick around if S3 becomes a 'boy show' - just another western. One of the things that made HoW unique was how Lily was portrayed, a woman coming from a spoilt world who finds herself in the wilderness, survives tragedy, takes a liking to the lifestyle and her late husband's work and becomes determined to fend for herself to get the freedom she longs for, far away from a stiffling New York society she feels she no longer belongs to. She was both sweet and ruthless, manipulative and naive and that made her a fascinating character.
And she got strangled for a cheap shock.
Methinks the writers have killed one of their most valuable asset.
One more woman in Refrigerator trope.
I was soooo incredibly angery after the finale.
I'm not really sure I want to watch it.
I think it would have been far better to see what happened if Lily and Bohannon got what they wanted and how they kept themselves from becoming Durant and his wife now that they had all the power. I have a feeling the show won't make it past season three.
How?
