Kevin Federline gives pennies to orphans, but dollars to the topless

June 22, 2006 | Morning Briefing:
Federline wants to save the pennies: In a somewhat surreal appearance in New York's Times Square yesterday, Kevin Federline helped kick off a charity drive for various as-yet-unnamed children's organizations called "Save the Penny," sponsored by Virgin Mobile. "I'm here with Virgin Mobile to bring the power back to the penny! I feel good about the penny!" Federline shouted to the gathered crowd, before donating the first penny to the fund. During a TV interview afterward, he proudly told the cameras, "I just gave all my (Britney's) pennies to charity!" As the black SUV chauffeuring him drove off, though, it rear-ended a pedicab. While the driver and the cabbie sorted things out, the Naked Cowgirl -- a Times Square topless-but-for-pasties singing performer -- approached the car, and someone from the back seat slipped her two bucks. As Lowdown writes, "The pennies may be for the kids, but in K-Fed's world, the bucks are for the naked ladies." (Lowdown)

Britney Spears says no to Kleenex tissues deal
BRITNEY Spears has cried off from a £2million deal to become the new face - or nose - of Kleenex tissues.
The pocket handkerchief giants believed they had offered the pop babe a deal not to be sneezed at.
They approached the pregnant mum-of-one after she had cried her eyes out during a TV chat show.
Britney, 24, is still reeling after her disastrous interview with NBC’s Matt Lauer on America’s Dateline show, which saw her tearfully admitting to being an "emotional wreck."
She explained: "I’ll start laughing hysterically and then I’ll just start crying. It’s my hormones."
The shocking footage of the distraught pop princess has been seen around the globe Kleenex cheekily decided to cash in by asking her to mock her outburst in a series of adverts.
An insider said: "Kleenex thought it would help her tattered image if she found the humour in her tearful interview and did a comedy parody of it. The internet is full of cheeky imitations of the interview. And she could get people to laugh with her, not at her, if she took part in her very own skit.
"Kate Moss joked about losing her contracts in the Virgin Mobile adverts and it did her the world of good."
But Britney didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at the huge offer.
She made it clear she is not ready to joke about her TV breakdown and is horrified by Kleenex’s "insensitivity".
A friend explained: "Britney was fuming when Kleenex approached her. She wants to put that horrific TV appearance behind her as quickly as possible and doesn’t want to remind the world about it with a series of tasteless commercials."
The falling star - who is battling to save her marriage to Kevin Federline, 28 - has appeared in adverts for Pepsi, McDonald’s, Skechers shoes and her own perfume Curious.

Celebrity auction: Andy Warhol wig $10800, Marilyn Monroe dress $66000
Warhol's silver wig sells for $10,800
By LARRY McSHANE, Associated Press Writer 8 minutes ago
NEW YORK - Bidders flipped their wigs Thursday at a Manhattan auction where one of pop art icon Andy Warhol's signature silver hairpieces sold for $10,800.
The wig, complete with three strips of toupee tape applied to its inside, was worn by Warhol during the early 1980s. Warhol first began wearing the hairpieces in the early 1960s, and they eventually turned into fashion accessories more than a cover-up for his baldness. Presale estimates for the hairpiece were $4,000 to $6,000.
It was one of several lots put up at Christie's auction house by Jeffrey Warhola, the artist's nephew. A 1977 Polaroid photo of Muhammad Ali, signed by Warhol, sold for $19,200. And a Warhol Polaroid of Mick Jagger from 1975 went for $15,600.
The top items in the celebrity sale belonged to Marilyn Monroe. A black cocktail dress worn during filming of "The Misfits" sold for $66,000, while a full-length ermine coat worn by Monroe in 1957 sold for $50,400.
An address and telephone book belonging to Monroe in the early 1960s sold for $31,200, more than double the pre-sale estimate. Many of the entries were written in by the movie goddess' personal assistant, but there were notations in Monroe's own writing for well-known friends like Susan Strasberg, Dean Martin and Sam Goldwyn Jr.
There was also a page in the back of the book with a listing of doctor's numbers, including Monroe's personal physician, her psychiatrist and her psychoanalyst.
A bracelet presented to the late "Gone With the Wind" star Clark Gable by his future wife, actress Carole Lombard, sold for $7,800. The gold-linked bracelet had Gable's initials on the clasp, and bore the message, "I Love You CL." It was accompanied by two black and white photos of Gable wearing the jewelry.
A copy of the book "Gone With the Wind," inscribed to Gable by the film's producer David O. Selznick, sold for $10,200.
All sales prices included a 20 percent buyers' premium.

Tom Cruise sent ex-wife Nicole Kidman a picture of his new baby daughter for her birthday.
The 'Top Gun' actor reportedly sent the flamed-haired star the framed photograph of Suri as a peace offering ahead of her marriage to country singer Keith Urban this weekend in Sydney. Cruise allegedly wrote a comic message inside the accompanying card, saying "A very nappy birthday to you".
The 'Moulin Rouge' actress, who turns 39 today (20.06.06), revealed to the media camped outside her Australian home, awaiting her marriage, she was looking forward to a "boring" birthday celebration with family.
She said: "I'm not doing much, dinner at home with mum, boring!"
The generous Hollywood star later brought media pack a case of cold beers as a thank you for the birthday flowers they sent her.

Not that it would have helped Kleenex's sales, but Britney should have gone for it, it probably would have helped. Her image can hardly get any worse.
That's me and my friend, for the record...
