Green Day Cancel All 2012 Dates, Postpone 2013 Tour

The band have stated that Billie Joe's well-being is their main concern...

Two days after Metallica filled in for them as headliners at the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans, Green Day announced today (29th October) that they were cancelling all dates for 2012, as frontman Billie Joe Armstrong continues his stint in rehab.

Bassist Mike Dirnt confirmed: "Obviously, the timing for this isn't ideal, but Billie Joe's well-being is our main concern.

"We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank all of you for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can't wait to see you all again."

Green Day's tour was originally set to begin in Seattle in late September, but that date was scrapped when Armstrong entered treatment for "substance abuse."

At first, the band said they'd only miss a few promotional appearances for their trio of new albums, but soon after, they pulled out of their slot at Voodoo. And now, all remaining dates — running until a December 10th show in Tempe, Arizona — have been cancelled.

Additionally, all 2013 dates have also been postponed, though a spokesperson for the band added that those shows will be rescheduled, with an announcement coming "shortly."

Previously purchased tickets will be honoured on the new dates.

Green Day also said they will be moving forward the release date of their ¡Tre! album to December 11th (it had originally been scheduled to hit stores on January 15th next year).

"We feel bad that we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned," drummer Tre Cool in the press release. "If we couldn't be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing."

The second instalment of Green Day's trilogy, ¡Dos! is still set to be released in November.

Saaaaaaw this coming a mile a way that's why I didn't even bother to buy tics and I think it's super odd that they keep releasing new dates for performances in 2013. Nobody knows what kinda shape BJ is gonna be in it's best to just cancel everything and start over when he's ready, cause it's not like Green Day fans aren't ready to roll whenever they feel like touring.

moving the release date forward? i don't think anyone is going to purchase the cd for sympathy

i wish him well, i was hoping to catch them next year but oh well.
josh_the_k 29th-Oct-2012 06:54 pm (UTC)
Well, I knew it was coming, but I was holding out hope they would still do the shows.

I wonder what his probably really is that it requires 6 months of rehab.

I've always thought he was a total titbox.

It seems pretty serious.

Thankfully my show is postponed, but tbh I see them eventually canceling the 2013 dates, too. Fuck, I was looking forward to seeing them :(

And it's obvious Warner just wants to cut their losses on the trilogy now and get it all out to maybe offset the losses with holiday sales. If the band isn't going to be ready to do promotion by January, why bother keeping it shelved until then? The whole thing is gonna tank, which sucks. (Not blaming Billie at all, I wanna make that clear. It's just a big pile of things not going right.)

This is just really really sad. Sad for the fans (like me) who had tickets to shows and were so excited to see the band again. But obviously just really sad for the band that something they were so proud of - this trilogy of albums - is now never going to get the credit that it deserves. I think the label is just trying to cut their losses on the whole endeavour, which is understandable but a damn shame.

Mostly, I'm just really sad for Billie Joe that whatever demons he's wrestling with are this serious. I hope he gets the help he needs to live his life with peace and happiness.

Our posts are pretty much the same, haha. Was yours postponed or canceled outright?
my_own_beat_now 29th-Oct-2012 11:40 pm (UTC)
Mine is the Toronto show, so it's just postponed. But I can't believe they'll reschedule the shows any earlier than summer, which is a bummer to have to wait that long :( I was so excited.

And yes, I think we're thinking the exact same way LOL. I just think the label is ditching the whole thing - what's the point of trying to promote 3 albums - a huge undertaking at the best of times - without your charismatic front man/singer/creator? It's a shame, because it's some great music.
marmar627 30th-Oct-2012 12:58 am (UTC)
Exactly. I say we'll have to wait until after those huge Europe dates in June and July. I just hope they'll actually be able to reschedule ALL the dates. It's difficult enough to book a tour, but to re-book it? idk, I'm just waiting for them to say LOL FUCK CLEVELAND or something because our venue won't be open. The venue I'm going to there isn't through Ticketmaster; we bought the tickets through the venue. That means that if the venue changes, it would be very unlikely that our tickets would be honored at the new place (say, if it was a House of Blues-owned venue to another HOB-owned venue) and we'd have to fuck around with buying tickets again. And probably at an outdoor venue, ick.

I'm such a paranoid pessimist omg

it's definitely an endeavor, but RHCP had to postpone a TON of shows this year - anthony was out for 3 months cuz of foot surgery, but they didn't cancel a single date. i'm sure if billie joe is up for a tour they'll reschedule everything

I think it's really cool that he seems to be taking rehab seriously. I'm also loving the Uno album and I know it's not cool to like them anymore but whatever they are fun to listen to when I work nights.
marmar627 29th-Oct-2012 10:29 pm (UTC)
bb if you love Uno, I think you'll love Dos more, based on what we're hearing about its content!
safaiagem 29th-Oct-2012 10:35 pm (UTC)
Now I'm excited! I've always wanted to see them live. I've heard they put on an awesome show but I'm like in my late-ish 20's and would be surrounded by a bunch of high schoolers.
marmar627 29th-Oct-2012 10:43 pm (UTC)
Actually, when I saw them in '09, the crowd was older than you'd expect! If this were the AI days, I'd say there would be a bigger chance of youngins, but now? You'd fit right in, I'd say. I know what you mean, I'm 23 and sometimes I get that "you stan for GD and you're not 15?" reaction but, eh. They are amazing live, so if you get a chance to see them, it's SO worth it.
drop_and_roll 29th-Oct-2012 10:48 pm (UTC)
I'm 28 and when I saw them 2 years ago there were plenty of people my age and older around. And they put on such a good show, it's worth going.
my_own_beat_now 29th-Oct-2012 11:43 pm (UTC)
Absolutely not! They are amazing live and you should really try to catch a show when they reschedule.

I'm more than 10 years older than you, and last tour I took my 10 year old daughter. I was not the oldest person in the crowd, and she wasn't even the youngest :) They draw a really fun and diverse crowd these days - GO :)
treradical 29th-Oct-2012 11:48 pm (UTC)
they're the best live
sassyfancypants 29th-Oct-2012 10:31 pm (UTC)
Pussy. What happened to rock n roll?
treradical 29th-Oct-2012 11:48 pm (UTC)
they're the best concert i've been to so that makes me sad. :( hope billie gets better soon.
mimoiikit143 30th-Oct-2012 12:23 pm (UTC)
