The Wanted Support Obama + Help A Capital Child Weekend Auction
After the show, the guys helped announce the lineup for this year’s Z100’s Jingle Ball, which includes Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Ne-Yo, fun. and more. The Brit-based band also took a few moments to sit down with AOL Music and catch up on their latest thoughts on American culture — including their take on politics and our portion sizes.
You’ve been labeled as a “boy band,” but what do you think the girl group equivalent to you guys be?
Jay: I don’t know if you know them, this girl group called Sugar Babes. The version that I’m referring to is Mutty, Heidi and Kiesha, Siobahn, they were, I’m not saying we’re rough by any means, but they had a bit of an attitude thing and their songs were just absolutely top. They were a bit older, they were reforming and stuff and had gone through a few line up changes, but I think we’re similar. I mean they might listen to that and be like, “Oh shut up you pansy.”
Tom: I saw a Little Mix video recently and it was really good. They won “X Factor” last year. They look great, they look like they’ve grown up. But they’re probably a bit too pretty to be compared to us.
During your travels all over this country, what have you found to be the most strange?
Tom: I just think the food portions are just ridiculous. Too big, far too big. I got a plate of chips last night and it was like a mound. I couldn’t get through all of it, look at the size of it. By chips I mean fries. Going to a diner is always good though.
Max: I like steaks though, I like how big they are!
Jay: The difference is that we’re here, the difference is that were away from home. America’s like, that culture has gone around the world, your movies are the most successful of all time, and that’s mainly why like, every country we go to speaks English, its not because of England, they’re not speaking in an English accent. It’s the fact that we’re in that country, America, that has New York, and the Hollywood sign — that’s the cool thing, the crowds themselves, crowds are just crowds.
Gotta ask a love question — what’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever done for a girl?
Tom: Siva has the sweetest one, he drew a portrait for his girlfriend at one point.
Siva: I have made multiple portraits of her.
Jay: I’m telling Tom’s, he’s got the best one. So he filled his flat with candles, and took his girlfriend out on a boat ride past his flat which is on the Thames, but he was very nervous he was going to burn it down. And on the floor he placed 50 hearts with reasons why he loved her.
Tom: She cried, yeah she did.
As Brits, what are your thoughts on the current U.S. election?
Tom: I’m pro Obama. Yeah definitely.
Jay: Barack Obama. Obviously we know nothing about his policies, he’s just a great showman. He just seems to not be a d—k, to sum up what you’d want to vote for.
Max: We met his wife and she was awesome. He’s a good singer as well
Tom: He’s got a f—-ing great smile. He’s got the Hollywood smile!
Nathan: We saw a debate between him and the other guy last night, what’s his name Mitt Romney? He was very complete, he didn’t take on all the emotions.
Halloween’s just around the corner! What are you guys going as?
