He played a vampire on Supernatural.
And now he'll be playing the father of a witch on The Vampire Diaries.
The veteran actor (CSI, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica) has landed one of the most anticipated roles of Season 4, coming on board later this year as the mysterious father of Kat Graham's Bonnie.
Fans know very little about Rudy Hopkins, who has been estranged from his daughter for years and scarcely even mentioned during the show's run.
But we do know Bonnie's dad is not a fan of his child's spell-casting side, and we also know that side has already led to some serious problems for Bonnie early on the Vampire Diaries Season 4.
Look for Hopkins to swoop in to Mystic Falls and try to protect his daughter from the dark forces assembling there. He will debut on Episode 10.

Phoebe Tonkin will stop by tomorrow night's episode of The Vampire Diaries, debuting as a werewolf named Hayley on "The Rager."

Have you been missing Mystic Falls’ quota of werewolves since Tyler (Michael Trevino) turned hybrid? Never fear! Vampire Diaries is set to get a new furry friend in Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) in Season 4, Episode 3, “The Rager.”
But is the lycanthrope in town for good or evil? And by evil, we mean breaking up Ty and Caroline (Candice Accola). Phoebe told TV Guide, "Haley isn't there to do anything bad or mess up anyone's relationship. Haley's a tomboy; she just likes hanging out with the guys!"
That’s a relief. Well, except for Klaroline fans, of course. And we know Michael Trevino has teased, “"There's a lot of history there and a strong bond with how far back [Hayley and Tyler] go. And, of course, Tyler hasn't mentioned this to Caroline at all.” Color us confused!
But regardless of whether she’ll get her flirt on, Hayley is a wolf with a mission. "She's trying to find out some things about her past, and there are people in Mystic Falls holding onto that information that she wants,” Phoebe explains.
Oh, Mystic Falls. You’re just like Gretchen Weiners’s hair: Full of secrets.
