New Taylor Swift single ‘State Of Grace’ previewed on ‘Good Morning America’ [Video]

Taylor Swift took a break from her hectic schedule to preview her new single on Good Morning America.

Swift has been busy promoting her upcoming album Red, and the singer previewed the fourth promotional single “State of Grace” on the October 15 episode of Good Morning America to round out her promotional duties before the track goes live on iTunes on October 16. “State of Grace” follows the first promotional single, “Begin Again,” released in late September. Following “Begin Again” were the tracks “Red,” named for the album, and “I Knew You Were Trouble” which debuted on October 8. All of Swift’s singles for Red have previewed on Good Morning America prior to their availability for download.

Swift said that the fourth single is about the heightened feelings that you get when you first fall in love. “I wrote this song about when you first fall in love with someone, the possibilities, and you know kind of thinking about the different ways that it could go,” she explained. No doubt, with her recent pairing with Conor Kennedy, Swift had plenty of inspiration for the track.

Swift also said that the musical arrangement of “State of Grace” was important as she headed in to recording. “It’s a really big sound to me,” she adds. “This sounds like the feeling of falling in love in an epic way.”

Swift’s Good Morning America preview of “State of Grace” is only a snippet, because she wants there to be plenty to look forward to when Red hits stores in one week. “I really want there to be so many surprises left on the record for when it comes out eventually, some collaborations that haven’t been talked about and some songs that are definitely what make the album so unique,” she said.

Here’s Taylor Swift’s preview of “State of Grace,” via Good Morning America:

i usually really like her voice, this song sound like it will be nice, but her persona just grates me. i just can't get into her.
sarahvma 15th-Oct-2012 08:10 pm (UTC)
Yeah... whenever she opens her mouth I feel like I'm in a commercial for sensitive lady products or finding my inner goddess or whatever.
hearthecity 15th-Oct-2012 08:10 pm (UTC)
Her speaking voice really bothers me
swissbeauty23 15th-Oct-2012 08:54 pm (UTC)
she annoys me but her music is catchy
sarahvma 15th-Oct-2012 08:09 pm (UTC)

ohkimosabe 15th-Oct-2012 08:14 pm (UTC)

sarahvma 15th-Oct-2012 08:15 pm (UTC)
Her face looks really tight and shiny.
anchors_oceans 15th-Oct-2012 08:16 pm (UTC)
you're right, it does look really tight.
sarahvma 15th-Oct-2012 08:11 pm (UTC)
"It's a song about when you first fall in love..."

Shocking.

Well, I guess it's 50/50 new love/breakup song at this point.
robertsbox_xo 15th-Oct-2012 08:13 pm (UTC)
75% love-related
25% other stuff

she just never releases the non-love stuff as singles

ohkimosabe 15th-Oct-2012 08:12 pm (UTC)
already obsessed with the first 4 songs she's released can't wait for her cd.
bssybuse 15th-Oct-2012 08:12 pm (UTC)

i actually like this one a little; surprising. its just that all her songs are cringeworthy lol. if she would just sing more songs like safe & sound, id so be there tbh.
sarahvma 15th-Oct-2012 08:14 pm (UTC)
lbr, Safe and Sound was 90% the band and 10% her.
robertsbox_xo 15th-Oct-2012 08:15 pm (UTC)
the arrangement maybe, but the civil wars said she wrote the majority of the song
jinnycalderone 15th-Oct-2012 08:26 pm (UTC)
awww, lolololl.
evawhimsy 15th-Oct-2012 08:54 pm (UTC)
naw, the band said she was the main songwriter.

oh oops someone pointed that out above. lol i gotta read threads more.

It's not the lyrics I generally dislike, it's her arrangements. That's why I liked Safe & Sound, the Civil Wars did the musical portion of it, she just wrote it.
fierysadness 15th-Oct-2012 08:33 pm (UTC)
She needs to do a whole album with the Civil Wars
false_hate 15th-Oct-2012 08:40 pm (UTC)
She doesn't have the maturity for any song she writes to come close to The Civil Wars.

What's the difference between a promotional single and a regular single? According to Wikipedia, a promotional single only goes out to radio stations, reviewers etc. and is not available to buy, but that's obviously not what they mean here.
robertsbox_xo 15th-Oct-2012 08:14 pm (UTC)
it's a promo single in that it's being released to digital outlets but not to radio lol, so kinda the opposite of what that definition says

it's not being released as an actual single b/c it's not being released for radio play. it's only being released for promotion.
jessyryan 15th-Oct-2012 08:15 pm (UTC)
Just a release to get people to want to buy the album. Also, Many times a previously declared normal singe that flopped so it's retroactively a ~promotional single...SO MANY artists do this it's redic.
notthatinnocent 15th-Oct-2012 08:30 pm (UTC)
A regular single is the one that gets airplay, it's the main driving force behind the album - a promo single is either a single that flopped, and a new one replaces it, or like Taylor does, a teaser to get fans interested in the album.
markovnikov 15th-Oct-2012 08:14 pm (UTC)
this bitch is going through singles faster than rihanna
robertsbox_xo 15th-Oct-2012 08:15 pm (UTC)
she's releasing a new song every week until the album

they're not singles
ohkimosabe 15th-Oct-2012 08:16 pm (UTC)
she goes through singles faster than rihanna goes through albums
allyson 15th-Oct-2012 08:14 pm (UTC)
snooze

The other ones were better imo
robertsbox_xo 15th-Oct-2012 08:15 pm (UTC)
clip is meh but i'm sure the full song will be good
xellabelle 15th-Oct-2012 08:20 pm (UTC)
I've realised why I don't like her. Her relationships sell her songs, intentionally or not, it's a fact. Every song she releases people and websites begin to speculate who it's about this time. Whereas nobody really cares about who Adele, Florence and the Machine and practically every single artist wrote their songs about, as long as it's a good piece of music.
fierysadness 15th-Oct-2012 08:32 pm (UTC)
Her relationships are always high profile, no one gives a fuck who Adele or Flo are dating tbqh. I don't think the relationships "sell" the songs, how does that explain the success of her first album?
evawhimsy 15th-Oct-2012 08:57 pm (UTC)
they help market her, very true. but she also writes insanely catchy and likeable songs imo, they're not very sophisticated and too superficial for many but they're pretty good pop country. i didn't have her fearless album on repeat for a month because her songs are about celebs, ya know?
chilli_cheese 15th-Oct-2012 09:18 pm (UTC)
A catchy song is a catchy song. No one gaf about her relationships except her stans/haters/internet.
bostongirl2003 15th-Oct-2012 08:21 pm (UTC)
why would you release four singles before the album drops?
robertsbox_xo 15th-Oct-2012 08:24 pm (UTC)
they're not singles, they're part of a countdown-- new song every week until the album comes out to promote it. tons of people do it. bieber did it, gaga did it, ke$ha did it...
shinebrighter 15th-Oct-2012 08:24 pm (UTC)
she did it last time too. they're not all radio singles, just previews.
dumbledummy 16th-Oct-2012 03:21 am (UTC)
I think it's clever marketing. It ups the buzz for her album, she can say she has 3 songs on the top iTunes songs, makes people curious about the rest of the album.
shinebrighter 15th-Oct-2012 08:23 pm (UTC)
i switched from today to GMA just for josh elliott. i love him.
xellabelle 15th-Oct-2012 08:25 pm (UTC)

She should sing in a lower register tbh. This is a really good live cover, her voice sounds really nice here, whereas her own songs are too high for her imo and sometimes come off screechy.
joe_pwnz_pete 15th-Oct-2012 08:56 pm (UTC)
Yessssssss. I have a theory that she may just be an alto/tenor and trying to push her voice into a higher note doesn't work. It was like that when she came out into country because of all the Carrie/Martina popularity, but I think she could get away with a lower register.

When she did Untouchable live on SNL, I thought it was beautiful.
ditiswritten 15th-Oct-2012 11:12 pm (UTC)
I agree with this theory.
daffneygillifin 16th-Oct-2012 07:52 am (UTC)
She's definitely an alto tenor, she goes down to at least a D3 and sounds pretty damn good down there. Her upper register is sketchy as heck. Let's talk the high notes Enchanted. They can hide a bunch of stuff in the studio but it all comes out live.
evawhimsy 15th-Oct-2012 09:02 pm (UTC)
love it.
boundarybreaks 15th-Oct-2012 09:13 pm (UTC)
holy shit she sounds so good.
rtms 16th-Oct-2012 12:52 am (UTC)
Wow for the first time I've seen and heard her live, this song is great. The thing is most of the time I find she just sings in one note monotone voice with her other songs. I think your theory is bang on which is why people complain about her live singing. If she would record her songs in her natural voice range instead of pushing it with the help of computers she would do so much better.
kknee13 16th-Oct-2012 02:37 am (UTC)
this cover is so good. I think it really depends on what song it is, because she does really good with safe and sound live which is probably her highest song but with enchanted she sounded much better during the higher pitch parts like the chorus and bridge than she did the verses where she sounds super flat
