Lara Pulver Talks Sherlock Season 3 (Sort Of)

So far all we know about the third season of BBC’s Sherlock are three words: “Rat. Wedding. Bow.” It’s not much to go on, but it’s plenty to get excited about.

It turns out that not even the actors involved — or those that could be involved — know what’s going to be happening in the hit drama’s next three episodes.

“I have no idea,” Lara Pulver, who played Irene Adler in the first episode of Season 2, told reporters at New York Comic Con before she burst out laughing. “We start shooting in January, Season 3. They’re writing the episodes — three episodes — as we speak. I have no idea if she’ll stay as a one-episode wonder or whether she’ll return for the final season.”

“A Scandal in Belgravia” was nominated for an Emmy, but ended up losing to HBO’s Game Change. Pulver said that, in this case, she expected the overwhelmingly positive response to the episode and her character.

“It’s the first time I’ve then watched something and it’s exceeded my expectation of what the finished product is. And that’s not me being a pessimistic kind of actor who’s like, ‘Oh, God, I don’t know why I did that.’ I’m talking visually, the story; it just worked so well,” said the actress, who was at the convention to promote the new Starz drama Da Vinci’s Demons. “The relationship between Benedict [Cumberbatch] and I just seemed to work really well, and it was fun from the get-go. We had so much fun, so it was an absolute pleasure to do that job, and it was a gift of a role.”

I just love her... ever since True Blood introduced me to her flawlessness

I predict a lot of tumblr mass suicides
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 09:11 pm (UTC)
Well she didn't say it was the final season, but there are rumours going around and I expect that it will be.
enid_keaner 13th-Oct-2012 09:55 pm (UTC)
I think it's going to be the final season too, which saddens me.

Benedict said something in an interview about how he was done with TV after Parade's End. I've no idea if he was joking because I honestly cannot tell in print when he is just joking or being a prick.
meredydd 14th-Oct-2012 12:19 am (UTC)
No confirmation on it being the final season. The actors and show runners are all on record saying they'll do it so long as BBC orders more eps but yeah, "bow" makes me awfully suspicious lol b/c of "His Final Bow."

hot143chocolate 13th-Oct-2012 09:06 pm (UTC)
the more the people involved with the show reveal their personalities, the less i want to watch the show

it's not nearly good enough for the people behind it to be even half as arrogant and full of themselves as they come across or to behave as if they're entitled to awards and a following abroad
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 09:10 pm (UTC)
Why is it bad for an someone to be proud of what they're doing? She didn't say she was entitled to awards or a following, she said (and the article is paraphrasing) "she expected the overwhelmingly positive response to the episode and her character."
imkevinspacey 13th-Oct-2012 09:54 pm (UTC)
Andrew and Rupert are lovely.
hateistoodark 14th-Oct-2012 04:40 am (UTC)
mte
and Lara hasn't said anything douchey yet so idk.
nemo_de_la_meer 13th-Oct-2012 09:09 pm (UTC)
Wait, wasn't there two stories with Irene Adler? So, they're putting her in another one?

Also, I 'hope' the wedding is John to Mary. Because I think John deserves some happiness. But tumblr would hate that and scratch that off the list.

At least we got three seasons out of this! It was a fun ride.
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 09:10 pm (UTC)
No, Irene is only in one story.
nemo_de_la_meer 13th-Oct-2012 09:47 pm (UTC)
Okay, I got confused. I'm thinking of the Granada episode. In my head it seemed like two. You're right, she is in one.
enid_keaner 13th-Oct-2012 09:32 pm (UTC)
Irene is in one fucking story. One.
minyquai 13th-Oct-2012 09:37 pm (UTC)
really?
i wouldn't want mary :/
she'll be shoved aside like all the other women soooooooooo nope.
fauxkaren 13th-Oct-2012 09:11 pm (UTC)
lol. No.

Plz. Don't bring Irene back.

Or Sherlock.

Or John.

The show could just be about Molly, Mrs. Hudson and Lestrade.

I'd watch that.
_dennis_csi_ 13th-Oct-2012 09:12 pm (UTC)
ia!

mrs hudson should be the matchmaker of lestrade and molly and the show should be about them solving crimes
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 09:14 pm (UTC)
I would watch the mother-loving fuck out of a Scotland Yard procedural with Lestrade, Sally, Anderson & Molly.

They could set it during the "great hiatus" and they could get someone other than Steve Moffat to write it and it would be awesome.
enid_keaner 13th-Oct-2012 09:29 pm (UTC)
With you on this.
rewrittentime 13th-Oct-2012 09:40 pm (UTC)
omg yes why isn't this happening
make this happen
minyquai 13th-Oct-2012 09:47 pm (UTC)
another procedural?
meredydd 14th-Oct-2012 12:21 am (UTC)
This. SO much. I'd fund it out of my nonexistent fortune if I could...

I just heard that she is married to Josh Dallas. Like, still married, just separated?
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 09:18 pm (UTC)
The separated about a year ago, but idk if the divorce is finalised.
halfdressedliar 13th-Oct-2012 11:04 pm (UTC)
He's dating Ginnifer Goodwin now isn't he?
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 09:24 pm (UTC)
I have a problem with how most of the women are written in Sherlock, but overall IA and I really liked the second series too.
minyquai 13th-Oct-2012 09:41 pm (UTC)
TRF>> the whole series

lbr
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 09:43 pm (UTC)
Because Andrew Scott.

enid_keaner 13th-Oct-2012 09:29 pm (UTC)
Oh, god. I do not want Irene in one more episode. I hated that character so much.

And considering she said "we", I am assuming she's actually in the next season and I am so nhft.

Edited at 2012-10-13 09:31 pm (UTC)
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 09:32 pm (UTC)
I really fucking hate Moffat for a lot of the changes he made to "update" the character.
enid_keaner 13th-Oct-2012 09:33 pm (UTC)
Seriously. Everything he did to her just made me go "...oh. I see. Fuck this."

I love the fuck out of canon Irene, but I really loathe BBC Irene. Loathe her. More than any other character on that damn show, barring the criminals.

And honestly, I can't sit through another Irene episode where she's like she was in Scandal. So if she is in another episode, I'll be skipping it until someone reviews it so I can see what she's like. And then I'll skip it if it's like Scandal.

halfdressedliar 13th-Oct-2012 11:17 pm (UTC)
I couldn't take her in another episode. I really liked her in the beginning of Scandal, and then the moment she was a lesbian in love with Sherlock killed it. It all just kept unraveling from that point on to me.

I thought the ending was not only contradictory to Irene's character but to Sherlock's as well. They spent the whole first season portraying him as someone who develops his relationships through seeing how well someone does their job(I guess that's how I want to say that.). You have Lestrade who really is a good detective, and he respects that. Hudson because not only does she take care of him in ways, and she'll stick around through hell for them. Watson because he obviously wants to be doing work with him, and he provides things Sherlock can't which can be an advantage for him.

Then you have him basically ignoring Anderson and Donovan because he finds them incompetent. Irene, in the end, showed herself to be incompetent in comparison to others. Even if she held his game for a while, by the end they had Sherlock win over her, act disappointed and cold, and then go save her? That doesn't seem like the Sherlock we've seen.(How did this become so long?)
pantspolice 14th-Oct-2012 12:49 am (UTC)
i couldn't agree more.
josiefier 13th-Oct-2012 09:46 pm (UTC)
Flawless queen is flawless. I've loved her ever since Robin Hood. And I would happily watch if she's back for S3.
sandvich 13th-Oct-2012 09:49 pm (UTC)
I was on board with BBC Irene until the very end when she caves and it turns out Sherlock is so fabulous and wonderful that she fell for him after all. And then he has to save her. I mean, the whole point of her character in the original story is that she beats him at his own game and then peaces out for good. She's not dwelling on Sherlock Holmes, she's out being a boss bitch, travelling the world and chilling with her husband. idk why so many adaptations have to turn her into some kind of secretly delicate flower who dies because she's just not as smart as Sherlock or Moriarty (RDJ-Holmes) or loses to Sherlock because she's a weak woman whose feelings control her brain (BBC Sherlock). It's infuriating.
enid_keaner 13th-Oct-2012 09:53 pm (UTC)
I don't even understand why she had to fall for him. What was the actual point? What did it give at all except provide me with a headache?

And like you said, canon Irene is a boss bitch and doing her thing. She's not moping over Sherlock.
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 10:09 pm (UTC)
I just hate the whole idea that Irene can't be happy with anyone BUT Sherlock. Like poor Mr. Norton has been erased from existence.

And even Sherlock describes him in canon as, and I believe this is the direct quote. "A smoking, GQMF."
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 09:58 pm (UTC)
When some dude write a stronger female character 100 years ago than re-inventions or modernisations of the same fucking character being done today -- IT'S EVIDENCE IT'S BEING DONE WRONG.

Fuck.
rewrittentime 13th-Oct-2012 10:02 pm (UTC)
mte! i was for the sex work/dominatrix thing but ugh sherlock saving her pissed me the fuck off.
xdecadentx 15th-Oct-2012 09:50 pm (UTC)
I hated the end. I could deal with her being a lesbian with a bit of a crush, but the reason for the password and everything was dumb as fuck.
imkevinspacey 13th-Oct-2012 09:57 pm (UTC)
I can't watch her episode unless I stop ten minutes before the end.
madonna 13th-Oct-2012 10:55 pm (UTC)
I fucking hated the ending so much.
madonna 13th-Oct-2012 10:55 pm (UTC)
Wait, season 3 is the final season for Sherlock?
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 10:57 pm (UTC)
That's the rumour that's going around, yeah.
madonna 13th-Oct-2012 11:10 pm (UTC)
Man, I hope it isn't true. Then again, it's only a matter of time before Moffat runs that into the ground 100% so maybe it's for the best.
minyquai 13th-Oct-2012 11:17 pm (UTC)
I don't believe it, I've never heard of a show ending without any of the creators really talking about it at all o_O
Especially not if it's that successful and big.
I think they're just trolling in the deep tbh........
wingslapped 13th-Oct-2012 11:15 pm (UTC)
That gif is my new canon.
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 11:27 pm (UTC)
OTP.
aragorn 13th-Oct-2012 11:16 pm (UTC)
I feel like Sherlock should have ended after S2 idk. The Reichenbach Fall was such a good ending it almost seems like anything that'll come afterward will be underwhelming as fuq tbh/imo etc.
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 11:28 pm (UTC)
It's true. Moriarty was so amazing.
executivehpfan 13th-Oct-2012 11:47 pm (UTC)
Wait, so Irene Adler is coming back?

WHY

WHY WHY MOTHERFUCKING WHY

Ugh.
sherlockholmes 13th-Oct-2012 11:48 pm (UTC)
Moffat felt like he didn't personally hurt me enough the first time, I guess.
executivehpfan 13th-Oct-2012 11:49 pm (UTC)
I am thisclose to making a Moffat voodoo doll and shoving every single pin in the fucking world in that sumbitch.
