Justin Bieber Believe Tour: Star Accused Of Scalping His Own Tickets

Team Bieber boasted that tickets for Justin Bieber's Madison Square Garden concert sold out in just 30 seconds, while his entire American "Believe" tour sold out in just an hour. However, ticketing documents obtained by News Channel 5 Investigates reveal shocking new details.

“Bieber's fans were not told that there were really not that many seats left by the time tickets went on sale to the general public,” reports News Channel 5, in Nashville. “Ticket instructions obtained from Bieber's Nashville concert show that out of almost 14,000 available seats the number actually set aside for that public on sale: just 1,001 … In Bieber's case, the biggest chunk of tickets -- almost 6,000 -- went to American Express customers through an AmEx presale. Another 3,000 went to paying members of Bieber's fan club.”

In the investigation, News Channel 5 says that it found 14 tickets on TicketsNow (a resale site with a huge markup) in row G, listed for $246 each. Ticketing documents show that this entire row consisted of house seats that were not made available to the general public.

“A lot of artists do this,” one concert insider tells me. “Their perspective is they would rather make the money than give it to scalpers. It's not unusual to hold back the best seats and sell them at marked-up prices calling them 'VIP' tickets.”

News Channel 5 claims that three years ago, less than 1,600 seats out of 15,000 seats at Taylor Swift's tour went on sale for the general public, adding that Ticketmaster has no say in what tickets artists make available for sale.

Bieber’s publicist did not return our calls for comment.

some artists have to be scalping their own tickets or cutting some deal with ticketmaster/livenation. how can some shows already have the exact section/row/seat on scalping sites before general sale, even before presale!? pisses me off.

Long story short I bought a Radiohead ticket ages ago. It's for my boyfriend but he can't go now. I'd like to go, but it would be so morally wrong to see his absolute favourite band without him. If I sell the tickets and I can cancel the hotel booking. BUT the plane tickets were a non-refundable $250, which I also paid for (I like to spoil him ok).

I'd love to see Radiohead but again, I'm not the biggest fan + money issues. WHAT DO I DO. I try to do something nice and then shit happens

/first world problems
x_unitydivides Re: o/t 12th-Oct-2012 07:47 am (UTC)
where is it at? take the trip with a friend instead and sell the tickets to a scalper the day of the show?
kamikashi Re: o/t 12th-Oct-2012 07:47 am (UTC)
do you know another big radiohead fan that would be willing to pay to go with you? cuz i would just go to it. since the plant tickets were that much, might as well use it since you cant make your money back. or if you dont mind going alone, try to sell his ticket to make some money back. although i suppose its awkward to fly alone, be alone in a hotel, and go see a concert alone lol. man im no help.

or if you dont wanna go and just wanna make as much money back... scalp the tickets for a much as possible to try and recover the plane ticket cost.

Oops I wrote it wrong- there's only one ticket to Radiohead. I have no problem going to things by myself, I would just feel bad for going without him. Actually, he got quite upset that I bought him the ticket without telling him because now we have to deal with all this (lol ok sorry for trying to doing something nice for you geez). We're both uni students and he has exams on the day of the concert and I don't have exams at all, so he's all grumpy, lol.

I might just sell the ticket. It was $130 and would probably sell for $200 at the most. And I might let my parents take the trip. That'd work right?
kamikashi Re: o/t 12th-Oct-2012 08:07 am (UTC)
oh yeah that doesnt seem too bad. i would sell em and let your parents go.

lol hes probably just upset he cant go and feels bad that your nice present has to go to waste.
run_atreyu Re: o/t 12th-Oct-2012 09:14 am (UTC)
What a shame it all turned out this way :( Re. offering your parents the trip, it may depend on the type of airfares you have. Some aren't transferable to another person's name without a fee.
addicteddisplay Re: o/t 12th-Oct-2012 07:48 am (UTC)
Some airlines let you keep ticket price as credit toward another plane ticket. (i think within a year?)

Although it's kind of a loss I'd take a trip somewhere later on. :)
superchocobear Re: o/t 12th-Oct-2012 07:50 am (UTC)
Oop, I meant there's only one Radiohead ticket. Two plane tickets and a hotel room for 2. /great typing skills
sviibwhapp 12th-Oct-2012 03:03 pm (UTC)
If I had Justin Bieber tickets I would sell them. I bet you could make some good money.
x_unitydivides 12th-Oct-2012 07:48 am (UTC)
this pisses me off SO MUCH. judge me all you want but i find this shit esp ridic after my friends and i tried to get VIP tickets to meet 1D and the site crashed and went back up without any notice at all and the rich girls got what they wanted and we sat with nothing.

makes me think twice about this bs god and to think we were going to fly to different cities to see them but nope those tickets were vacuumed up too
bigdesi772 12th-Oct-2012 07:51 am (UTC)
this is me, surprised.

Yep. Madonna is just the only one that's up front about what she's doing with the jacked up prices.

God, I fucking hate buying concert tickets. I get fucked over in situations similar to these all the time. Or Ticketmaster will purposefully give you the last row in a venue if you pick the lowest price range just to "punish" you because when you go to the show, rows in front of you are empty. And then there's the fees. And then there's the TicketsNow and StubHub shit mentioned here. And then there's the bullshit fees for PRINTING OUT YOUR OWN GODDAMN TICKET. And then there's fanclub presales sucking worse than the real sales.

I could go on.
neko_oni 12th-Oct-2012 10:25 am (UTC)
Yes, yes. I'm buying tickets in a few hours as soon as they go on sale and I'm afraid of getting screwed on good seats.

We just bought tickets to the Black Keys last minute last week and had to pay to print them out.... I'm so bitter about that shit years later still.
vervain 12th-Oct-2012 12:26 pm (UTC)
i hate buying tickets especially because i bought these tickets off ticketmaster for a concert, the band said these were the only dates for the tour. So I waited for aggges to get a chance to get them. Then after the venue sold out on that night they said they were releasing extra tickets to that venue on another night and planned to release more dates to the venue >:C so I got these crap seats for the first night.

this is why i rarely go to concerts.
ditiswritten 12th-Oct-2012 02:06 pm (UTC)
preach.

my friend and I saw Lady Antebellum in May and we ended up in literally the last row in the venue.
hippie_chick 12th-Oct-2012 12:06 pm (UTC)
Sadly, this is pretty standard practice. I don't see why this tour in particular is being "accused" of anything.

troy_macclure 12th-Oct-2012 12:46 pm (UTC)
Seriously, fuck Ticketmaster for only giving me one result for seats with a timer on it. I want actual selection.
ellenelles 12th-Oct-2012 01:13 pm (UTC)
lol what is your commentary op? this article came out like two weeks ago

and as the article says this is standard practice, EW just has a stick up their ass wrt justin. this post is a fail
6pennylane 12th-Oct-2012 03:11 pm (UTC)
this really fucking pisses me off. so many people can't even afford to take their kids to these shows already and trolling them into paying WAY more is so FUCKING WRONG
beating_heartss 15th-Oct-2012 05:39 am (UTC)
Ticket prices are really ridiculous nowadays. I saw No Doubt last time they toured and I paid nearly $100 for seats in the very last row. ridiculous.
