Ask Men has just released their annual “Top 49 Most Influential Men” of 2012 and Frank Ocean was ranked #8! The list features all sorts of individuals including James Bond who was ranked #1 this year. More then 500,000 Ask Men readers voted along with Staff to determine the Top 49 list.

The men who made the list come from different walks of life, but they’re all men who are breaking records, reinventing the way we do things and redefining what it means to be a modern man. They’re dedicated to furthering the future of humanity through their respective fields, and in doing so, they inspire us to do the same.

Frank Ocean was ranked ahead of fellow artists Kanye West, Jay-Z, Snoop Lion and more. Here’s what Ask Men had to say about Frank’s #8 rating:

A few months ago, Frank Ocean publicly announced his bisexuality. It was a gamble, as the world of hip-hop, while undoubtedly trendsetting and trailblazing, is still less than tolerant. But the attention Ocean received for his courageous declaration was turned to his critically acclaimed new album and to his powerful performances on SNL and at the 2012 Video Music Awards.

It's reached a point where every time I read a comment like this my eye twitches.

Yeah I like the second half of Pyramids but everything else puts me sleep.

At the first half of Pyramids make me think of Judas by Gaga.

I don't.
chantemarissa 11th-Oct-2012 12:58 am (UTC)
his music was written to be performed by other people. his vocals are just so blah on some songs.
spider_orchid 11th-Oct-2012 12:10 am (UTC)
Here for his lips. Not here for this list of foolishness, mayhem and carrying on.
fwee_prower 11th-Oct-2012 12:10 am (UTC)

I've only ever heard him when he performed at the vmas and I was so unimpressed. What are some of his best songs I should look up?
saintssin 11th-Oct-2012 12:31 am (UTC)
I wish we could say that in 2012 sexuality was a non-issue. Alas...

Regardless, I'm glad he was able to come out and make a difference. If his decision inspires others and also works to change attitudes in the hip hop community, I'm all for it.
nicolesnitchie 11th-Oct-2012 12:47 am (UTC)

But I think people mostly know the Ask50 sexiest women over their 50 most influential men.
gonexforgotten 11th-Oct-2012 01:11 am (UTC)
I still haven't listened to his music. The whole Odd Future association killed any interest I had.
