A Conversation With Stevie Nicks @ Hamptons International Film Festival
The legendary Stevie Nicks sat down for a Q&A yesterday before the premiere of her new documentary, In Your Dreams.
Topics include:
- Co-writing with Dave Stewart
- Lindsey, Lindsey, and more Lindsey
- How she feels about tell-all memoirs (re: Ann & Nancy Wilson)
- Why Christine McVie really left Fleetwood Mac
- An impromptu a capella medley of "Bella Donna," "Wild Heart," and "Rock a Little"
- The necessity (or lack thereof) of musical training
- Much, much more
And here's a snippet of the documentary that they showed before the Q&A. Stevie sings Dreams, now & then.

WHY WAS I NOT THERE.
I jammed out to Fleetwood Mac all summer.
Anyway BOW, know what I'm spending my next hour doing, etc.
she was kind of talking about the stage visually (which makes no sense because this is music we're talking about, lol) and how she was way far off to the side behind that huge hammond organ, and she always just wanted to be one of the musicians and never wanted to be center stage
which of course everyone knew. however she still did have all those hit songs.... haha.
And with Chris, she mentioned of course that she & Chris were kind of each other's ally's in the music business because of their role as women in a male-dominated field. And that she was her best friend, and they both decided that they were going to be just as respected as the guys. Then regarding her leaving, she essentially says that Christine just really started having panic attacks about flying. That she'd been doing the band thing since she was 14. That after the Dance, they went to the Grammy's, and they didn't win, and they all really wanted to and Lindsey was mad about it, and Christine was upset about the whole situation. She said after the Dance tour was over that they could have (and would have) toured all over Europe and Australia, but that she was doing press with Christine after all of the guys had gone, and Christine just looked at her and said, "I quit." And that it was like when someone is breaking up with you and you know they're not kidding, that there's nothing you can say to change their mind. So Stevie asked if she wanted her to tell them, and Chris said no, that she would tell them herself. And that after that the band really kind of broke up for a while, because they had to really decide whether or not they could continue on without Christine. The only reason, she says, that they are able to still tour without her is because Chris was never in the spotlight, so because of that they're able to replicate the show enough to be able to still play.
Go Insane from The Dance is MY FAVORITE song right now. I love what he did to it. WOW.
Go Insane is so flawless. I love that playing style, and the intensity of it all.
